 hi  people,

What  is  the  diff  btwn  a  pll  and  a  normal  householdl  tubelight?  given  that  pll  is  more  expensive  than  a  normal  tublelight

 I  currently  have  2*  2ft  philips  T5s.  of  ~30wats  each.  =  60  wats  total.

 I  NOW  wish  to  use  lighting  for  a  low  tech  /Natural  planted  tank  43  gallons*3     ~  130watts

 Kindly  advise

 thanks  people

Hmmm,  I  am  a  bit  confused  myself.  But  all  I  know  is  T5s  produce  100  Lumen/W  while  PLLs  give  out  75  Lumen/W.
Since  a  T5  produces  more  Lumen  per  Watt,  its  more  efficient.  And  maybe  produces  less  heat  too.

 More  Lumen=  More  Light.

PLL  is  not  very  expensive.  Its  cost  of  36  watt  in  under  Rs.  100  in  Delhi  and  blast  cost  is  also  in  the  range  of  Rs.  150.

Thanks  a  lot  mate.  I  suppose  its  this  chart
 http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=17970&start=0

All  time  I  had  notion  that  all  fluroscents  were  around  80lm/w,  because  thats  what  I  see  around  me.  So  was  surprised.
Eg-  one  that  I  use(not  the  gal   ,  check  the  lumens)
 Oreva

T5HE  is  at  the  100s  but  not  the  normal  T5s,  so  still  difficult  to  get  hold  of
 T5HE
 Table  for  the  rest
 Table  for  lumens

The  normal  T5  still  are  way  <100lm/W.  Wish,  Essabee  gave  some  ref.

@Mumbai-  hope  you  know  what  you  should  buy  now?   Thumb Up

PLL  is  compact  it  takes  lesser  space  for  36w
a  normal  t8  is  4  feet  for  36w  so  for  less  than  4  feet  tank  PLL  is  better  for  4  feet  and  above  T5  or  T8
normal  T5  is  quite  less  than  100lm/w

If  the  tank  size  is  2  feet  or  lesser,  then  I  would  choose  36Watts  PLL  rather  than  T5HO  24Watts  or  T5  tubes.  Since  36W  PLL  gives  more  lumens.

 T5  Tube : 14  Watts  -  1350  Lumens
 T5HO  Tube   : 24  Watts  -  2000  Lumens
 Pll  Tube            : 36  Watts  -  2900  Lumens

All  the  above  tubes  will  easily  fit  for  a  2  feet  or  lesser  tank.  Now  you  can  decide  which  to  choose  from  the  above
