What  do  you  guys  think?   These  are  LED's  available  in  10,  20,  30,  50  watts  configuration.   No  documentation  comes  with  it.   They  are  of  Chinese  origin,   but  seems  well  built.   Well  what's  your  opinion?

Seen  them  in  Ritchie  street  some  time  back  but  forgot  to  collect  the  details.  They  looks  so  bright  and  costs  much  much  cheaper  then  on  some  online  stores.

I  was  thinking  like  a  50w  of  this  will  replace  the  70w  MH  that  I  was  planning  to  buy.
But  this  definitely  is  costlier,  so  do  they  have  any  advantage  than  the  obvious  heat  reduction  ?

As  I  said  it  didnt  come  with  any  documentation.  But  a  google  search  shows  a  look  alike  available  in  3  kelvin  ratings,  the  highest  being  6000k.

This  is  intended  as  a  sole  lighting  for  an  anubias  tank.

they  produce  less  heat,  power  consumption  is  less,  deeper  penetration  of  light  in  the  tank,
these  are  chinese  but  i  have  seen  a  30watt  in  action  its  just  amazing,  am  not  sure  of  what  the  kelvin  rating  is  but  i  think  the  white  one(there  are  orange  and  white  colours)
is  of  6500k,  it  is  a  good  replace  for  a  MH  with  the  initial  investment  :-)
P.S-  here  is  a  10watt  of  the  same  thing,

No  I  am  not  talking  of  a  10watts  one,   a  50  watts  or  2  nos  30  watts,  if  the  price  is  right.

Mine  is  a  3  feet  by  1.5  feet  by  1.75  feet  (height)   tank.

 Hi  rroopesh

I  have  two  similar  ones  with  me.

 One  running  @  7000K  and  other  @  5000K  both  are  10W

I  picked  it  up  from  a  known  source.  They  are  pretty  decent  and  work  well  in  planted  tanks.

The  link  to  my  planted  tank.

 http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=25255&highlight=

Running  them  for  last  couple  of  months  and  the  results  have  been  good.

The  most  important  is  to  choose  the  right  specs  ,the  intensity,  wattage  and  kelvin  range.

U  need  that  info  b4  u  buy  them.

for  planted  tanks  u  need  slightly  less  than  7200k.  6500k  is  what  is  recommended  so  u  might  want  to  take  a  look  @  the  light.

Some  time  back  i  was  given  simple  information  on  detecting  the  kelvin  range  of  LED  roughly.........

<5500K>6000-7000K  bright  white  light  when  taken  a  picture
 >  7000k  slight  blue  light  when  taken  a  picture

Please  choose  the  kind  lighting  required  and  buy  them.

IMO:  they  do  not  spread  all  that  well.....So  choose  less  wattage  multiple  numbers  that  way  u  can  position  the  lighting  correctly.

For  my  tank  i  have  two  10Watts  lighting  to  cover  up  the  tank.

For  cuba  is   running  @  7200k  and  the  hair  grass  running  at  5500k.

 Regards,
 Anish

Simple  logic  is  1:3  LED:MH  power  rating  so  for  a  250W  MH  u  will  need  about  75W  of  LEDS  -  but  also  rember  their  spacing  between  the  LEDs  play  a  major  role...  but  for  stand  alone  LEDS  like  the  above  to  replace  a  70W  MH,  u  will  need  no  more  than  a  20-30W  LED  panel.

they  will  be  pricy,  but  worth  the  money  that  you  pay  when  you  take  the  long  term  consideration  of  less  current  cost,  lesser  chiller  (less  heat)  and  long  long  life..  no  need  to  replace  them  for  min  7-8  years  (if  used  correctly)...
