I went to Dava Bazaar yesterday to replenish my stock and how could I have skipped an opportunity to visit Crawford market? I expected to get some premium fish food for my flowerhorns.
Just outside the market, there were hawkers selling memory cards and pen drives as if they were fruits. At what cost? Rs.100 quoting price for a 8GB Sandisk micro SDHC card and Rs.250 quoting price for 64 GB Kingston Pen Drive, all subject to bargain. Obviously duplicates.
I literally pity what the market has become. I had a hard time finding any flowerhorn pellets. Most of them had the low quality Taiyo products. The Ocean free XO humpy head small bottles that almost every shop had were obviously as fake as the memory card on sale outside. Only one shop had Grand Sumo and genuine Ocean free products, but his quoting price were Rs.xxx greater than what the local retail LFSs charge for the same. And I suck at bargaining. So it was obvious that it wasn't a good day to be in the market.
But returning home empty handed would have been against the teachings of my Guru, ' Crime-Master Gogo'. Having solely this in mind, I started scouring the shops for anything that looked interesting. That was when I entered shop with atleast 8 different varieties of angelfish mixed together in 4 huge tanks. Angels are my Uncle's favourite fish. So I decided to buy some for him as a belated Diwali/early Christmas gift.
Of all the thousands of angels, after 10 minutes of observation, I chose a sturdy high-finned banded variety. There were only 4 of these to be seen. I decided to buy all four. The rates weren't fixed. The fish-hands quoted prices at random and the owner acted as if he was ignorant of the prices. The guy who bagged in the fish for me after a lot of forced hard work, quoted Rs.xxx per fish as according to him, these were rare imported ones. He was obviously lying to avenge the long minutes of scouring for individual fish that I had subjected him to, to get my four choice fish from a couple of thousand. I tried to bargain with the owner, but it was futile. At the same time, I sort of liked these fish. So I got them for a little below half a Grand. I know that I have foolishly overpaid, But please don't comment about that. I like these fish and hope that my Uncle will love them too.
The diameter of the bodies alone is roughly 2 inches. They appear to be pretty robust, but aren't aggressive so far. Their finnage is beautiful, but has been nipped by the much larger marble angels from the LFS tank. No external signs of infection though. I have currently prophylactically quarantined them in the 3G acceleration tank with methylene blue. They will be shifted to my uncle's place next week. I fed them Azoo micropellets and they gobbled them up readily. They appear to be hungry all the time. The poop is also normal. So much for the health.
I haven't kept angels for may years now and have 2 questions for the angelkeepers and experts.
1) What strain of P.scalare are these ?
2) My uncle had a spare 36"(l)x12"(b)x24"(h) barebottom discus tank which currently houses a pair of 1.5-2" red spotted Heros efasciatus that he bought last week. Can these angels coexist with the severums or should I ask him to empty the tank for these angels?
My uncle is currently on a roadtrip till Sunday and has borrowed my camera. So I shot the pics on a 2MP mobile cam. Hope that they are clear enough to be IDed, inspite of the methylene blue stained water.

Silver Angels, but nice specimens. Take good care of them. Aggression will start when they pair up.
Better to keep them separate. Under unavoidable circumstances, if its a large tank with some sort of hardscape or hiding spaces then keeping them together with severums should not be an issue. That too if they are of similar size and temperament. Still a risk not worth taking as i find severums to be aggressive.

@ Arjun, Balaji, Saurabh, Nick, Abhida & Rahul:
Thanks a lot for your valued comments guys.
So I gather that these belong to a variety which can be classed under Silver Angelfish, one of the oldest scalares in the hobby.
And I'll ask uncle to reserve the tank for these angels alone.
I'll post some better shots on Sunday before handing them over.

Here are few pics and a vid that I shot using my friend's Fuji after 50% water change, before topping up the medications. They seemed a bit scared and had faded. But I couldn't wait for them to settle again as I had to return the cam, compress the pics n videos, upload the same and post the updates before retiring for the night. Will post better snaps in clear water on Sunday or some time later.
