Hi all,
I noticed these creepy crawlers in my 28G hi-tech hairgrass tank.
They move like cockroaches and seem to be multiplying at fast rate.
I do weekly 30% water change and almost never let the fish food be in the tank for too long.
Would appreciate if you can help me get rid of them... thinking of them is making me go YUUUUUKKKK!
PS: My tank is infested with snails - but more on this on a separate theread!
HELP!
Regards,
Ashish

I dont think so , they had appeared in my tank where I was rearing molly fry and had lots of long hair grass.
Also along with them I noticed some worms like ascaris , the kind that infect small childrens tummies and come along with feces .
I dont know wether both the worms and these creatures are related , but they do look awful and unhealthy. BTW you might not be able to see the worm form as it is largely hidden.
In order to get rid of these creatures I left a Ram and dwarf gourami in the tank after clearing the molly fry who had a feast on them.
I feel they were eradicated due to Ramirezi eating them up. Ibelieve even Blue gourami or three spot gourami is also good at clearing such infestaions. |

ok You don't think so.. but you didn't tell what it did to your tank?
They wont eat plant or harm the tank inmates.
That worm you are talking about is planaria. That can be a cuplrit, it will eat eggs or shrimp fries. |

From the pic, its not clear whether they are planaria or seed shrimps.
One small thing, just check if these things are sticking to the glass or their movement is through crawling or they move swimming.
And about getting rid of them, what you have in your tank as inhabitants? Because my fishes take care of them, in shrimp only tank they are issue!!!! |

Chill man just rying to help the guy out, and the description exactly matches them . Pls drop a single Razmirezi and he will definitely get busy gorging heimself . Bleieve me it works.
BTW planarians are flat if am not wrong and not round like ascaris etc.. |

They seem to be crawling everywhere(they are not slow - not at all)..never seen them swim.
I have cardinals, 2 assasin snails, 1 black molly and ~ 10 molly fry.
I dont see any of them going after whatever these creatures are - planaria ? ( Dont think so ), seed shrimp? (Cant say) - maybe a hydro cockroach? :P

after getting to know my molly/molly fry don't even see them - you still think introducing Ramirezi is the solution?
These hydro cockroach seem to be under the gravel most of the time and that is why i think there should be another approach to eradicate them...
Still awaiting a confirmed identification and a way to get rid of them... |

Drop a dwarf gourami to take care of them, it will be gone in some time there are chemical treatments also like fenbendazole, but its better to take them naturally!!! |

@Jack if u read my first post I had used both ram as well as dwarf gourami. So i already suggested that to u.
BTW I found rams to be more effective . My tank had molly fry( In fact it was meant for them only) and they didnt do a thing about them.
I dont think they will go away on their own , use predators.
The three spot gourami is used to treat infestations of Hydra another aquarium pest. |
