Buy  a  refractometer  from  eBay   to  measure  salinity  and  add  a  HOB  skimmer  immediately  .  After  you  add  the  skimmer  do  regular  water  changes  and  your  tank  should  be  fine.  Don't  forget  to  add  the  wavemakers.

 Hi  All,

I  have  purchased  a  protein  skimmer  WEIPRO  SA-2011.

I  will  be  adding  this  to  the  tank  tomorrow.

So  since  I  will  be  adding  the  skimmer,I  think  now  the  water  changes  can  be  less  frequent  and  also  the  live  rock  currently  in  the  tank  (5  kg)  will  suffice?

 is  this  fine?

 Vijay

I  think  the  water  change  will  still  be  required  every  week.

you  will  also  need  more  live  rock..(  this  is  acting  as  your  media).

By  adding  a  skimmer  you  cannot  run  away  from  water  changes  and  live  rock.

when  setting  up  a  nano  tank  be  sure  that  equipment  cannot  take  away  your  maintenance.  water  changes  are  still  very  essential  and  cannot  be  done  away  with.

you  need   live  rock  rock  to  cover  at  least  40%  of  the  total  water  volume  to  be  on  the  safer  side

What  pump  will  you  be  using  with  the  Weipro  SA-2011?  The  skimmer  itself  is  dependent  on  the  quality  of  the  pump..  Does  the  pump  have  a  needle-wheel  impeller?

 Hi,

the  pump  i  will  be  using  is  a  minjiang  600ltr/h  pump  with  a  powerhead  which  came  preinstalled  on  my  moulded  tank..this  pump  is  connected  to  the  top  filter.

Your  LFS  said  that  should  be  fine  with  the  Skimmer?  I  doubt  that  would  be  effective  ..  The  SA-2011  will  need  ATLEAST  a  1200  L/H  pump  AND  with  a  needle  wheel  impeller  to  create  bubbles  for  the  skimmer  to  work  effectively.

 Just  my  2  paise  ..  I  could  be  wrong  ..  I  would  be  using  a  2000  L/H  pump  w/  Impeller  for  a  Weipro  SA-2012  I  purchased  ..  Right  now  I  have  a  HAQOS  PS-600  which  is  using  that  same  pump  ...

Also,  in  my  opinion,  an  SA-2011  would  be  too  big  for  a  49  liter  tank.  Please  get  a  nano  skimmer  ..  Im  sure  boyu  has  a  bunch  of  them

 Thanks  for  that,

I  have  returned  the  SA-2011  and  replaced  it  with  a  BOYU  nano  skimmer  WG308

This  I  think  will  suffice  for  my  nano. Also  have  ordered  for  10  kgs  of  live  rock  so  in  all  there  will  be  around

15kg  in  the  tank  in  about  a  week.

I  will  get  the  test  kits  by  30th  and  do  the  water  testing  with  that.

Buying  a  hydrometer  today  (heard  that  it  a  needle  type  for  rupees  650,brand  is  marine  environment.)

Will  the  minjiang  600ltr/h  powerhead  suffice  for  this  boyu  WG308  or  should  i  purchase  a  new  powerhead?

 advise  please

650  sounds  about  right  for  the  hydrometer..  make  sure  the  reading  is  ALWAYS  between  1.023  and  1.025  ...  Check  every  other  day  since  Nano's  have  a  huge  problem  with  quick  changes  in  water  chemistry  due  to  evaporation.

 Hi  Guys,

 Happy  New  Year  2012.

I  got  this  live  rock  from  a  LFS  nearby  and  he  told  me  its  ready  to  be  introduced  in  my  tank.

Please  have  a  look  at  it   and  suggest  if  its  ok  to  put  in  the  tank  straightaway  or  need  to  do  something  before  putting  in  the  tank  (its  not  smelling)
