 Thanks  for  the  info.
So  i  need  to  make  them  start  accepting  tetra  bits  if  i  want  to  power  feed  them?Wouldnt  starving  them  at  such  an  early  age  affect  their  growth?
Also  how  does  the  power  feed  help  (i  mean  in  technical  terms)?

Just  start  tetrabits  after  2-3  weeks  or  after  1  months  in  your  tank  ,  so  that  you  discus  will  grow  1  inch  more.and  they  can  achieve  a  good  health  to  easily  overcome  the  starvation  period  of  2-3  days  .  for  a  healthy  discus  the  starvation  will  not  affect  its  health.

there  is  no  technical  logic  to  power  feeding,In  my  little  knowledge  its  simply  like

after  the  evening  rash  feeeding  they  can  rest  in  clear  water  and  in  that  rest  time  digestive  process  is  more  in  balanced  state.
So  that  the  waste  is  high  in  moring  session  so  we  also  need  a  morning  water  change  .

 @Rocky  :  Thank  you.

 @ratheeshkollam  :  Thanks  a  lot.

Ok,so  for  now  my  Discus  only  eat  BHM.What  i  have  noticed  today  is  they  have  become  very  active  and  are  ALWAYS  hungry! Its  like  they  can  keep  eating  anytime  all  the  time!
I  fed  them  4  times  a  day  at  an  interval  of  4  hrs.today  i  fed  them  at  an  interval  of  3  hrs  with  50%  water  change  twice  a  day. But  they  still  seem  begging  for  food  within  minutes.

As  they  have  settled  in  well  I'm  thinking  of  a  new  schedule..6  Feeds  a  day  at  an  interval  of  2hrs  each  with  daily  2  times  50%  water  change. Is  it  ok?

 Need  Expert  Advice!

 Cheers.

Your  tank  size  is  24x12x12  ,  you  better  shift  them  to  bigger  tank   instead  of  feeding  them  6  time  a  day  .  why  do  you  want  to  feed  them  6  times  and  pollutes  the  water  .

More  than  anything  else  i'm  desperate  to  have  a  bigger  tank. But  its  not  possible  as  my  parents  are  against  it.My  only  choice  is  this  2  footer.
I  wanna  do  all  i  can  with  the  resources  at  hand.

I  browsed  through  loads  and  loads  of  discus  threads  here, and  among  all  i  found  Yogesh's  threads  very  informative  and  encouraging.

I  read  in  his  thread  (i  guess  about  BDs)  where  he  fed  them  6  times  a  day  with  twice  water  change  and  the  results  were  mind  blowing.

Also  i  found  my  discus  to  be  hungry  all  the  time  so  thought  that  feeding  them  6  times  a  day  at  this  early  stage  would  help  their  growth.

 Cheers.

 Aniket

2'  tank  is  not  going  to  help  your  discus  grow  at  their  best.  Better  get  min.  footprint  of  36x18x18  with  6-10  discus.  Observe  their  growth  rate  as  all  discus  will  not  grow  at  a  same  pace.  6-8  healthy  specimens  can  be  retained  and  balance  weaker  ones  will  need  to  be  grown  separately/discarded.

Power  feeding  will  need  to  be  supported  with  somewhat  equal  number  of  water  changes.  It  was  possible  for  me  only  during  my  night-shift  weeks  where  I  used  to  do  as  many  as  5  WCs  a  day  (hope  the  "astonished"  guy  is  reading  this  before  commenting  something  stupid  under  alcoholic  influence).  Those  BDs  you  referred  of  mine  were  really  a  gem  and  reported  to  produce  3  breeding  pairs  out  of  my  last  bunch  of  10pcs.  Very Happy

 Thanks  Yogesh.

I  will  try  and  get  larger  tank  in  a  couple  of  months.

Your  BDs  were  really  very  nice  indeed.Growth  was  astonishing.

What  if  i  distribute  my  4  feedings  into  6?i  mean  same  amount  of  food  but  instead  of  4  times,i  can  feed  it  to  them  in  5-6  feeds?
As  it  is  Discus  are  messy  eaters  and  waste  a  lot  if  fed  even  a  little  extra. If  i  feed  them  little  they  gulp  down  the  entire  thing.
Guess  it  would  help  them  if  i  fed  them  at  less  intervals  as  they  are  quite  active  and  hungry.

 Cheers.

 Aniket  Bhau,

Power  feeding  and  massive  WC’s  needs  hands  on  experience.
Don’t  try  to  do  this  at  this  stage.  Feed  them  4  to  5  times  a  day,  make  sure  that  they  had  consumed  given  food  in  15  minutes.
Daily  50%  WC  and  weekly  100%  WC  with  maintenance.  You  will  get  healthy  fishes.
 That’s  it!!!

I  cant  ask  someone  to  feed  because  they  only  eat  BHM  and  the  water  will  be  polluted!

As  nobody  will  be  home,I  can  leave  the  aerator  ON  but  im  worried  about  the  heater!  Dont  have  any  timers..

I  cant  ask  someone  to  feed  because  they  only  eat  BHM  and  the  water  will  be  polluted!

1)Few  hours  before  you  go  ,  clean  all  the  sides  of  the  tank  .
 2)  Do  max  WC  (  water  should  be  of  same  parameter  )
 3)  Remove  the  heaters  from  the  tank  .
 4)  Ensure  aeration  will  be  on  through  out  this  period  .  pl  check  for  lose  fitting   .
 5)  Try  to  keep  extra   Aeration  backup  ,  in  case  if  one  fails  .
 6)  No  feeding  for  5  days  .
 7)  Try  to  keep  the  tank  room  closed.
Cool  In  Pune  temp  drops  down   drastically  at  night  hence  try  to  cover  the  tank  from  all  side  (  try   blanket  )
 9)  Once  you  return  home  ,  do  WC  and  plug  on  the  heater  .  feed  lightly  .

 Thanks

With  bigger  discus  it  is  not  an  issue.A  100%  WC  and  go  on  a  vacation  for  4-5  days. But  with  juvies  such  as  yours  it  might  be  a  bit  trickier. It  is  advisable  not  to  starve  young  discus  for  so  long.

Get  an  Eheim  Jager  or  Rena  thermostat  and  forget  the  temperature  issue.
