 Hello  Nandy,

Very  sorry  to  hear  about  the  BD.
Do  you  see  any  mucus  secretion  from  the  fish/es?
In  case  there  is,  PP  is  a  sure  shot  solution  for  the  problem.  Please  be  VERY  CAREFUL  with  the  dosage.  Read  Shiva’s  post  thoroughly  before  you  start.

Wish  you  luck  buddy  and  keep  us  posted.

 Regards,
 Suman

I  fail  to  understand  why  we  all  have  to  jump  to  the  conclusion  that  any  sick  discus  requires  PP,metro  or  any  other  medicine  for  that  matter  from  day  1.Blue  Diamonds  do  not  have  stress  bars  neither  do  they  pepper.Any  discomfort  is  usually  expressed  by  the  darker  colouration.
Simply  elevate  the  temperature  to  around  30  deg  c,switch  off  the  lights(or  keep  a  dim  bulb  ON)  and  add  a  little  bit  of  rock  salt  after  a  WC  with  aged  or  'Hypo'ed  water.Exercise  patience  for  a  day  or  two  and  go  for  a  PP  only  in  severe  cases.PP,  if  not  administered  correctly  can  do  more  harm  than  good.
Even  in  the  link  provided  above,Mr  Nair  suggests  PP  only  in  severe  cases.
Check  the  water  quality, whether  the  fish  has  been  bullied  recently  or  any  human  interference  that  may  stress  the  fish.

I  understand  what  you  are  saying.  Water  change  and  a  salt  bath  is  sufficient.
Just  the  anxiety  that  another  discus  does  not  meet  its  creator.  And  as  mentioned  Shiva  has  said  PP  metro  in  extreme  cases

@  aquarius  -   is  so  correct

dont  run  meds  unless  you  see  a  definitive  cause  of  the  problems.  good  water  parameters  might  just  remove  the  symptom.  But  keep  an  eye  on  him.

I  never  said  it  WILL  be  sufficient. The  point  emphasized  upon  is  not  to  jump  steps  and  arrive  at  wrong  conclusions.
Start  with  mild  treatments  and  go  to  harsher  ones  if  the  previous  ones  fail.
Clean, high  quality  water  solves  many  discus  problems  just  as  a  vacation  to  a  beautiful  hillside  resort  improves  many  longstanding  illnesses  in  us  humans.
Probably  the  best  way  to  describe  PP  treatment  is  Chemotherapy  for  external  parasites  in  discus.
You  certainly  do  not  want  to  undergo  that  treatment  for  a  running  nose,  do  you?

Exactly  Swarnendu...right  you  are.......PP  or  Formalin  treatment  is  the  last  stage  of  treatment  when  all  others  are  failed...

 Nandy  ,

Pl  observe  that  Blue  diamond  carefully  ,
 1)  Shape  :  This  BD  is  not  in  proper  shape  ,  and  looks  unhealthy  ,  looking  very  thin   and  dark  due  to  stress  -  May  be  sick  for  a  long  time  .
 2)  Eyes  :  Color  of  the  eyes  are  not  clear  ,  its  blackish   ,  indication  of  internal  parasites  .
 3)  Forehead  :  Compare  with  other  healthy  fishes  ,  you  will  observe  that  the  forehead  of  this  BD  is  Sunken  .  This  is  not  a  good  sign  ,  very  few  discus  survive  after  this  stage  .  Day  by  Day  this  BD  will  become   weaker  and  weaker  .   This  is  again  an  indication  of  multiple  internal  problems

Try  below  and  see  if  it  shows  any  sign  of  recovery.

 1)  Separate  this  sick  Discus  in  to  hospital  tank  .
 2)  Put  on  heater  and  slowly  increase  the  temp  to  32  Deg  .
 3)  Dose  with  metro  @  1.5  gm  per  100  ltrs  .
 4)  Next  day  do  50%WC  and  redose  again  as  above  -3  .
 5)  Continue  this  for  8-  10  days  .
 6)  feed  Metro  Mixed  food  .

People,  I  echo  here  Abhi's   legendary  statement  which  is  blunt  and  to  the  point...

I  dont  wanted  to  post  this  and  deviate  from  the  issue  to  help  Nandy  to  recover  his  fishes  and  please  dont  take  me  otherwise  as  I  have  no  intention  to  offend  anyone  in  the  forum.
We  have  Discus  specialist  (noted  gurus)  on  the  forum  and  any  discussion  with  regards  to  the  treatment  of  the  fishes,we  should  let  them  reply  first...
Instead  of  this,  we  all  are  replying  and  we  all  want  to  help  nandy  (which  is  a  very  good  sign)  but  it  is  very  important  that  we  should  not  try  to  play  Doctor  Doctor.
Let  the  experts  reply  first  on  the  disease  and  sick  fishes  questions/problems  and  help  the  patients  and  the  owners.

Loosing  expensive  fishes  is  a  lose  to  the  owner  so  I  believe  we  all  should  understand  the  point  here..

@  Nandy  hope  your  fishes  are  recovering.

 Thank  you.
