 Hi  Friends,

Please  take  a  look  at  my  live  rock  pictures.  Is  the  red  and  purple  stuff  coraline  algae?

If  it  is,  is  it  alive  and  what  should  I  do  so  that  it  will  propagate.

I  am  using  a  3'  auqazonic  with  4T5  tubes  in  it.  There  are  two  white  tubes  and  two  blue  tubes  in  it.

I  am  not  happy  with  the  lighting.  Please  suggest  what  kind  of  lighting  I  should  have.  I  am  not  planning  for  any  corals  in  the  near  future,  I  want  my  live  rock  to  develop  nicely  and  then  think  about  corals.  I  would  prefer  to  have  a  fish  dominated  tank.

 Live  Rock  Pictures

 Thanks,
 Gokul.

yeahi  seen  coraline  alage  also  green  hair  alage  .

For  proper  growth  of  coraline  alage  u  need  to  maintain  good  calcium  level  from  380  to  420  and  alk  has  to  be  minimum  7dkh  and  low  phosphate.

My  calcium  levels  are  way  too  high  actually,  When  I  did  the  test  the  maximum  level  was  around  550's  the  number  of  drops  it  actually  took  for  the  solution  to  turn  blue  was  much  greater  than  that.

Also  my  ph  level  is  only  around  7.9

Ammonia  and  Nitrite  are  zero  but  my  nitrate  levels  are  high.  I  don't  have  a  test  kit  for  phosphates.

 Nah  mate,

I  haven't  been  dosing  any  calcium.

The  water  parameters  seem  ok  cause  there  are  quite  a  few  feather  dusters  which  are  doing  fine.  Its  just  the  lighting  I  am  concerned  about.

without  dosing  calcium  520  is  high  also  did  u  do  frequent  water  change  ?

Comeing  to  parameters  as  it  only  FOWLR  so  u  dont  need  to  be  pin  point  but  keep  eye  on  your  NO3  and  PO4  it  main  cause  of  alage  in  tank  also  prevent  coraline  alage.

Just  do  30%  water  changes  weekly  and  you  should  see  some  increase  in  coraline  algae  growth  in  a  couple  of  weeks  once  the  pest  algae  dies  off..

Also  reduce  feeding  and  increase  your  filtration  with  the  ATS  or  get  a  better  skimmer.

I  suspect  there  might  be  little  on  your  rocks  already,  the  only  known  'starter  pack'  is  a  live  rock  with  coralline  algae  on  it.  Calcium+Magnesium+Trace  elements  should  promote  coralline  algae.

This  is  the  proper  way  to  grow  coraline  algae.
