|
|
Hello Everyone,
Finally, have decided to setup my dream tank of 6x2x2' and plannin to make it myself at home this weekend. Have had a detailed chat with Venket over the phone and got to know the challenges in making a tank of that size.
Planning to use 12mm glass and going for a iron stand.
My choices of fishes for the tank:
Option 1:
1. Silver Arrowana 1
2. Giant Gourami 1
Option 2:
1. oscars
Pls let me know if i could go for any other option of fishes as am plannin to set up a styrofoam background.
Cheers!

I am all for the Arowana anyday.
I am not sure who posted this idea here before but if you can afford it, a setup with Silver arowana and f/w rays would be so cool for that tank. |

Hi Venktesh, can you post pics of the tank? And my suggestion for such a big beautiful tank is a shoal of Red Belly Piranha. |

option 4: Malavi cichlids
option 5: Fronts/tangs

Why not try a terrarium/vivarium.... Have neons and cardinals to inhabit the water while let plants (that grows in land as well as water)to make the rest. Alternately you can create a mngrove landscape which has mudskippers and other fishes. had similar dimensions. Gave up because the (indoor) plants need some direct sunlight which I coud not provide. I have seen these natural biotopes in some zoos- they look fabulous. There is one in the Vienna zoo which even has an Anaconda! But it looks great veen when you do it on a moderate scale- like the dimensions of your tank. |

An RTC would need a 1000 gallon tank by itself. |

Hi Venkatesh
Congratulations on your new tank....finally we have some biggie tanks in poona as well with almost all memebers of poona iah (except me ) upgrading to larger or more number of tanks.
A word of advise my friend. If you have no experience in making this tank i would strongly advise you to go through the lfs way.I know how poona lfs are and trust me if you cannot manage this tank no one and i mean no lfs would touch your unfinished job.But well if you confident you can manage it thats cool.
i have a 6 by 2 by 2 and a half tank at home.Albino fisheries had made it and done a decent job.Used enough side supports and stuff.
Your tank would be roughly 750 l or there abouts. That i think would rule out a Red tail catfish and a giant gourami as both would most definately outgrow this tank.
You can however try an option of silver arowanas, oscars and tiger shovel nose. Also some south american cichlids or then frontosas.
In my tank i have 6 oscars,2 shovel nose,2 parrots and a texas.
hth

I can't afford to keep a 6x2x2 marine tank
Arowana and shovelnose is a good option...but some how i want to go for the Giant gourami as well... May be these three would look good together.
Good Fronts are rare and very expensive in Pune and they wouldn't fit my budget

i prfer to go for a rocky setup with styrofoam background and not a planted one which needs a lot of maintainence. Moreover these large fishes don't like decorations at all
What do you guys think about whether this tank would accomodate a silver arowana when it grows big?
Let me know if you have any more inputs!
Cheers! |

Hamza,
Would check with Albino on Saturday and if he does a good job, will go for it...as it would avoid risks.
By the way, how many Piranhas could be kept in a 6x2x2? |

Ya albino would be your best bet in making a tank....he is the best especially where large tanks is concerned.
You might find him expensive but it will be well worth it |

Am going with Aditya to Albino today evening. If you could make it, lets go together and book the tank today itself so that he delivers in the weekend. since this time is a long weekend, we can set the tank as well.

Your tank will hold about 180 Gallons so you should be able to keep 6 Piranha (RB's) without any problem. This number dilutes mutual aggression as well as gives enough space for them to grow out to their full aquarium adult size of about 10". |
