 Hello,  Can  someone  help  me  identify  the  sex  of  my  goldfish.
 Will  this  pic  be  sufficient  to  identify  ?

 One  thing  I  noticed  in  your  tank  is  that  you  have  kept  your  aerator  pump  below  the  water  level  without  any  check  valve.  In  case  the  power  goes  the  water  will  go  back  into  the  aerator  and  there  would  be  a  shortcircuit  with  a  WET  WET  floor

 Hi,

 As  far  as  i  know,  the  only  way  to  identify  the  sex  of  goldfish  is  when  they  mate.  The  male  goldfish  will  chase  the  female  goldfish  and  will  force  her  to  throw  eggs  out  of  her  mouth  which  it  fertilizes.
 Yes  during  this  time,  the  male  goldfish  would  have  ich  like  white  spots  on  his  gills  and  pectoral  fins.

 hope  it  helps.  :)

 Regards

   Thumb Up   Thumb Up   you  just  saved  him.  but  i  guess,  water  wont  climb  up  the  height  (may  be  1  inch)above  the  water  level,  as  there  is  only  air  coming  through  that  pipe.
 but  why  take  risk.  i'm  with  you  Smile

 @Ram_a_rosi,
                              You  sure  have  a  sharp  observation  !  Smile.  I  shall  lift  the  pump  above  the  threshold  level  right  away.

 @Rahulrohit,
                           It's  sad  that  i  cannot  identify  the  sex  of  my  fish.  I  was  planning  to  get  opposite  sex  and  put  them  in  a  bigger  tank.
 Do  LFS  ppl  know  the  sexes  ?  they  always  sell  fishes  in  pair,  do  they  ever  provide  with  opposite  sex  or  just  random  ?

 No,  goldfish  aren't  mouth  brooders.

 the  LFS  ppl  are  not  much  bothered  about  the  gender  of  fish  which  they  are  selling,  they  will  simply  pick  up  fish  at  random  and  give  them  to  you  unless  you  specifically  tell  them  to  give  any  specific  fish.

 may  be  this  will  help  you

 gold  fish  are  carps,  they  require  a  big  space  to  become  adults,  and  also  to  breed  ,  they  cannot  be  bred  in  fish  tanks   of  small  size,  the  sexing  is  very  easy

 if  u  hold  an  adult  goldfish  and  press  gently  near  the  abdomen  or  the  anus  it  will  release  sperm  as  a  white  liquid,  otherwise  its  a  female,and  also  females  have  very  fat  bellies  to  hold  the  eggs  ,easily  distinguished  when  they  are  not  fed  for  2-3  days,  it  requires  2-3  males  to  fertilize  1  females  eggs  properly

 Hmm....  Alright  !  One  more  query,  do  you  recommend  me  to  keep  my  tank  bare  [No  substrate]  ?
 The  goldfish  is  pooping  a  lot,  sometimes  i  see  long  poop  even  when  i  have  not  fed  him  for  last  12  hrs  !  As  you  can  see  from  my  aquarium  pic  (above)  that  i  have  stones,  the  poop  really  penetrates  deep,  and  100%  cleaning  by  siphon  is  not  possible.  Hence  i  just  removed  all  the  stones.  I  hope  i  did  right  thing   Shocked

 its  advisable  to  keep  some  substrate,  else  all  the  poo  will  be  floating  in  the  tank.  if  you  can  change  water  daily  then  you  can  keep  it  bare  bottom  else  keep  some  substrate.
 goldfish  will  continuously  take  in  some  sand  or  any  other  fine  substrate  and  spit  it  out.  hence  i  would  say  that  small  stones  are  prefered  over  sand.

 Goldfish  poop  a  lot........  A  good  filter  with  weekly  water  changes  (  gravel  vaccuming  would  be  good  )  would  keep  the  tank  clean.

 Like  angels,  the  sureshot  way  of  sexing  goldfish  is  when  they  mate.  The  male  will  continuously  chase  the  female,  nudging  at  her  Anal  duct  with  his  nose,  making  her  release  the  eggs.

 @crazyomzi,
                           Yes,  i  am  ready  to  clean  every  day  with  bare  bottom.

 @Linelogic,
                        I  knew  that  goldfish  poops  a  lot  before  buying  them,  but  never  knew  they  will  poop  so  often  !  even  when  i  dont  feed  them  for  last  12   hrs,  they  poop,  sometimes  very  long  poop.  The  sad  part  about  sexing  is  i  have  a  single  fish,  I  guess  i  will  never  know  it's  sex  [  i  assume  it's  a  male].
