PostPosted: Thu Mar 08, 2012 5:21 pm Post subject: My Driftwood Aquarium Reply with quote

After  many  days  I  start  a  new  project.  This  project  is  all  about  driftwood  based  aquarium  with  some  tetra  sp.  and  my  all-time  favourite  harlequin  rasbora.  Also  I  may  add  Cory  and  otocinclus.  But  here  comes  the  reason  why  I  want  to  choose  this  type  of  set  up.  It  is  because  due  to  my  hectic  time  schedule  I  can’t  maintain  discus  and  planted  tank  simultaneously.  I  can’t  break  down  my  discus  tank  because  this  is  always  my  first  choice.  So  it’s  sad  but  I  had  to  dismal  my  planted  set  up.  Most  of  the  plants  were  given  away  to  my  good  friend  Rohan.  Then  I  decided  to  set  up  a  new  tank  where  I  have  to  give  lesser  time  than  planted  one.
Here  comes  the  driftwood  based  biotope  kind  of  set  up.  But  I  don’t  like  to  call  it  as  biotope  tank  because  I  want  to  keep  simultaneously  harlequin  rasbora  and  cardinal  tetra.  Harlequin  is  from  Asia  and  cardinal  tetra  is  from  Amazon.  Also  I  may  add  otocinclus  and  Cory.  So  this  is  basically  a  driftwood  based  tank.

Then  my  next  challenge  is  I  want  to  make  this  tank  so  natural  with  lots  of  branchy  drifts.  I  give  normal  sand  as  substrate  and  low  light  (5  Watt  for  my  2  feet  tank,  with  shade).  Also  add  peat  moss  which  leaches  humic  acid  and  add  some  ceramic  ring  as  a  goof  filter  media.

For  that  aquarium  i  made  a  stand  made  of  teak  wood.  Here  you  can  see  the  picture  of  that  stand.  Size  is  24  12  30.

Today  i  set  up  my  tank,  a  new  way  to  celebrate  holi.

 Hardscape:  sand  gravel  (lower  portion)
 Fine  river  sane  (upper  portion)

3  Driftwoods  (1  moor  wood,  1  branchy  wood  from  bappa  da,  1  Indian  wood  from  Chennai)

Filtration:  Dolphin  H  500  HOB  filter

 Filter  media:  AZOO  peat  moss
 Ceramic  ring

This  coming  Saturday  i  will  go  to  buro  da's  shop  to  bring  hood  of  my  tank.  I'll  use  3  CPU  fan  for  cooling  purpose.

After  that  day  i'll  upload  pictures  of  my  tank.  Now  you  can  see  those  3  driftwoods  that  i  use  in  my  tank...

 Achintya,
Why  don't  you  further  combine  the  two  and  make  a  discus  biotope. That  will  further  reduce  your  workload.

Now  it’s  time  for  cycling  the  tank.  I  add  10  mollies  tocycle  this  tank.  To  make  a  blackwater  effect  I  use  AZOO  peat  moss  and  tealiqueur.  Till  now  I  am  reasonably  satisfied  with  result.  I  will  also  use  Indianalmond  leaf  because  the  ph  level  touches  7.4  in  this  tank.  Here  is  the  pictureof  my  tank…
