Hi friends,
I have a planted setup(32G) from 3 months now. The tank is densely planted. No Co2 , 36w X 2 PLL lighting for 6 hrs daily.
I have never dosed any ferts so far. I have read that adding flourish excel acts as good supplement for plants so I am planing to start doing so. But I was wondering if this will lead to algae bloom since I have no Co2 set up. Please give me your inputs on this. I have recently battled brown hair algae and the tank is completely free from from it now. Just dont want to introduce it again in anyway...
Thanks. |

Hi hnabhi,
Flourish Excel is an intermediate form of CO2 which plants can utilize and definitely accelerates growth. Flourish Excel dosing will not lead to algae bloom, in fact there are cases where use of flourish excel has combated algae growth.
Also, keep in mind that increased growth will lead to increased supplementation requirement from the plants. Therefore, you will need to dose fertilizers as well.

Hi,
Flourish Excel is a great product....It will never induce algae, and with its effect algae will be completely removed from your tank. It contains photosynthetic intermediates which will accelerate growth and your plants will flourish.
Advice given with my own experience.
Thanks |

Hi friends,
Thanks for your replies.. i guess my post led some of you to think that I assumed flourish excel to be a fertilizer.. sorry for my ambiguous post.. i meant since I am not dosing any ferts will adding only flourish excel cause any harm to the plants or result in algae bloom. Well reading your posts so far I believe it is safe to start supplementing the plants with flourish excel without having to worry about algae issues. Thanks again |

Excel balances the CO2 in the tank and there by controls the algae growth. and also provides the required CO2 in liquid form for the plants for its growth. In case you have some algae related issues then it is recommended to use Excel... if not better go for a normal CO2 injection method.
Excel is no fertilizer... as given in tom barr report its just glut with a reputed brand name....
Dear friend.....Flourish Excel is not cheaper...
Think about it... |
