 Hi  there  !

I  want  to  use  a  Black  colored  substrate  in  my  tank  but  cant  find  anything  here  in  chennai  -  I  looked  for  black  chippings  (the  ones  that  used  to  be  used  in  mosaic  floorings)  but  it  seems  that  no  shops  carry  the  chippings  anymore  since  mosaic  floorings  are  not  used  anymore...  any  ideas  on  stuff  that  can  make  good  black  substrate  ?  or  is  there  anywhere  in  chennai  where  one  can  still  get  the  black  mosaic  chippings  ?

 Please  advice  friends...

 Thanks  !

What  ever  type  of  substrate  you  use,  Make  sure  it  is  "INERT"

You  wouldn't  want  the  substrate  to  alter  your  water  Chemistry.

 Regards,

 Hi  Oscarvenom,
Silvery/Grey  stones  (jalli)  normally  have  sharp  edges.
So  I  would  think  twice  before  using  them  for  aquariums.....
It  could  be  dangerous  to  your  fishes....  Sad

The  normal  chips  used  in  flooring  are  marble  chips.
They  are  not  fit  for  aquariums  as  they  make  water  hard,  unless  you  are  setting  up  a  rift  lake  cichlid  aquarium.
If  this  a  planted  tank,  go  in  for  ADA  amazonia  or  controsoil,  both  are  black  in  colour  and  look  nice.  However  they  are  expensive.

Black  color  substrate  will  help  to  display  the  fish  color  well  but  be  sure  that  the  substance  you  put  does  not  effect  the  fish  health....  Smile

 Hi  All

We  can  convert  back  soil  into  something  like  power  sand  (fine  particle  size),  which  can  be  added  with  plant  nutrients  if  required.
Basically  this  will  have  a  bonding  of  the  paticlas  so  that  the  soil  does  not  cloud  the  water.
PM  me  if  you  are  interested.

 Abhay
