 Hello  guys.

I  wanted  to  share  the  mayhem  in  my  cichlid  tank  with  you  all  for  a  long  long  time  now. Was  a  bit  busy  on  the  work  front. The  following  happened  in  my  four  footer   Smile
It  started  with  one  of  my  female   orange  morph  holding  (Not  sure  about  the  id).     At  that  moment  my  tank  was  flooded  with  other  cichlids,  who  were  frequently  harassing  the  poor  female.  The  next  to  fall  in  line  was  another  rusty  malawi  cichlid  female  whom  I  noticed  taking  shelter  just  behind  my  bio  filter.I  had  another  salvini,  a  Honduran  and  pink  convict  pair  who  were  showing  signs  of  breeding  too.  Shifting  the  breeding  pairs  with  the  two  holding  females  was  an  uphill  task.  So  I  decided  to  shift  the  remaining  cichlids  (around  10  of  them)  to  another  settled  tank. It  was  after  about  15-20  days  that  i  decided  to  strip  the  rusty  female.I  was  a  bit  nervous  since  it  was  my  first  attempt. But  i  did  fairly  well  and  managed  to  bring  out  around  15-20  fries   (the  pic  is  below). Then  after  10  more  days  i  stripped  the  orange  morph. To  my  surprise,  the  fries  were  a  mix  of  purple  and  orange  colour. The  convict  and  the  salvini  fries  however  did  not  manage  to  survive.Planning  to  shift  them  to  2  seperate  tanks.
I  have  made  a  collage  for  better  viewing   Chuckle.Plus  few  pics  of  the  breeding  sessions.Last  but  not  the  least,  my  first  ever  malawi  fry  tank. There  are  about  30-40  fries  in  there   Very Happy     Hope  you  guys  like  it.

 The  collage

The  savini  pair  laying  eggs   Smile

The  eggs  vanished  next  morning  though.

The  pink  convict  mamma  peeking  out  from  her  den  (Notice  the  tiny  little  wrigglers)

Planning  to  shift  the  honduran  and  the  pink  convict  to  another  tank.Since  the  fry  didnt  manage  to  survive,  probably  it  was  eaten  by  the  texas  fella.Would  be  interesting  to  see  what  colour  the  fries  would  be.

My  first  ever  malawi  fry  tank  (From  the  first  batch)

Mix  from  the  first  and  the  second  batch

There  are  some  rocks  in  there  for  the  fries  to  graze  on  algae.

Ram_rozi  :Thanks. All  you  have  to  do  is  keep  noticing  the  females  mouth. You'll  know  once  they  are  full  with  eggs   Smile
Elimoses  :Yes,its  generally  not  advisable  to  mix  americans  and  malawians  together. But  i  had  been  keeping  them  from  juveniles  onwards. The  agression  seems  to  be  under  control  as  i  have  got  lots  and  lots  of  hiding  spaces  in  the  form  of  rocks.
Nandy  :Thanks. The  fries  are  been  fed  dried  tubifex  worms.Shifting  them  to  a  2  footer  soon   Smile
