@  Rasik-  You  said  it  ..trial  and  error  is  the  name  of  game  Smile  .  I  am  learning  this  hobby   with  mistakes  and  corrections.  As  we  were  discussing  in  another  thread,  glut  has  removed  brown  algae  and  controlled  black  beard  algae.  Now  I  have  decided  to  move  from  simpler  plants  to  more  difficult  plants  like  blyxia  japonica  and  HC.  Also  planning  to  fill  up  the  empty  space   with  more  quantity  of  existing  plants.  Eventually  I  want  to  fill  out  the  empty  space  behind.  Also  planning  to  change  background  from  blue  to  black.

@Yogesh..  To  be  honest  and  candid...  this  simplicity  was  not  planned  but  rather  enforced  as  I  dont  have  any  experience  in  aquascaping.  But  now  my  hands  are  itching  to  try  to  more  complex  scapes  .  I  have  one  2  cubic  feet  tank  on  which  I  will  practice.  I  have  removed  complete  star  grass  from  right  side  and  will  introduce  HC  to  have  a  carpet  on  visible  sand.  Hope  it  would  look  good.

Appreciation  and  suggestions  from  seniors  like  you  help  us  newbies  to  experiment  more  :)

@  Deba...  Thanks  for  your  appreciation.I  had  shifted  from  DIY  Co2  to  pressurized  CO2  about  3  months  back  .  Currently  I  have  a  1  kg  CO2  will  manual  regulator  and  surprisingly  it  has  served  me  for  about  3  months  now  and  still  going  good  Smile  .

 Regards

 Thanks  Imrandayatar  :)

Today  I  noticed  that  one  of  the  Cardinals  is  ill.  It  has  fluffy  coat  around  its  whole  body  and  is  lethargic.  I  can  not  post  any  pic  as  its  behind  plants  .  Not  able  to  catch  it  even  as  it  quickly  hides  behind  plants.

I  bought  these  Cardinals  around  6  months  back  and  have  been  very  healthy  till  now.  They  are  quite  good   in  size  (  more  then  1  and  half  inches  now  ).  This  Cardinal  is  first  fish  of  the  lot  that  fell  ill.

 Can  somebody  suggest  on  :-

 1.  What  disease  is  it.

 2.  Whats  the  cure  and  precautions?

 3.  Since  I  am  not  able  to  catch  the  sick  cardinal,  will  the  disease  affect  other  fishes  as  well  ?

 4.  Recently  I  have  started  dosing  Seachem  NPK  and  Seachem  Flourish  once  a  week.  Could  it  be  reason  for  the  sickness.

 Appreciate  your  help  friends.

 Regards

 Friends

Pls  help  .  I  couldnt  find  any  information  on  internet  about  this  disease  .  I  am  afraid  that  if  this  disease  is  contageous  then  other  fishes  may  get  affected  too  .

 Regards

Its  probably  some  sort  of  Fungus...  Or  probably  White  spot  (Check  if  you  see  small  white  spots  on  the  fish).

Posting  a  pics  would  help  us  a  lot  in  diagnosing  it.

As  expected  its  White  Spot  disease  (also  known  as  Ich).  Quickly  quarantine  all  the  good  fishes(one  which  do  not  have  any  white  spots).  do  not  use  the  water  from  your  aquarium  while  quarantine.  Invertebrates  (snails,  shrimps,  etc)  are  not  affected  with  this  diseases.

Ideally  I  would  expect  most  of  your  fishes  to  die  in  next  3-4  days.  I  think  there  is  a  antibiotic  pill(for  human  consumption)  you  get  in  Medical  store,  which  you  can  add  into  the  aquarium.  But  I  have  never  tried  that.

Here  is  my  experience  with  White  Spot.
 http://aquariumtime.blogspot.in/2012/01/no-lush-green-lawn-for-time-being.html

Please  do  not  be  biased  with  my  experience.  There  will  be  some  way  to  save  them  probably  other  board  members  help  you  out.

 Regards,
 -  Vinay  Gaonkar.

 HI  Vinay...

It  turned  out  to  be  dropsy.  None  of  the  other  fishes  were  affected  and  by  the  grace  of  god  ,  no  more  mortalities.

 Regards

 Hi  Friends

 Latest  pic  of  my  tank

 Tank  Specs:
 Size  WXHXD:  3X2X1.5ft

 CO2:  DIY  CO2

Lighting:  Azoo  128  watts  PLL  and  72  watts  CFL  8  hours  (2  pm  to  10  pm)

Substrate:  Azoo  3  kgs  plant  grower  bed,  substrate  of  golden  sand  about  2  inches  deep  .  At  back,  plant  grower  bed  is  more  then  3  inches  deep  for  deep  rooting  plants.

 Filtration:  Ehiem  classic  2217  canister

Fertilization:  Macro  and  micro  nutrients  of  Seachem

Since  the  tank  is  now  14  months  old,  CFL  and  PLL  have  lost  their  intensity  and  plants  at  bottom  are  not  growing  well  at  all.  Red  cabamba  is  red  at  the  top  but  wither  away  from  the  bottom  part.  Also  there  are  no  reflectors  being  used.

As  now  I  want  to  grow  carpet  plants  and  rescape  the  plant,I  am  planning  to  shift  either  to  MH  or  LED.

I  believe  250  -300  watts  of  MH  will  be  suitable.

I  need  your  guidance  on  -

 -  How  much  watts  of  MH  should  I  use  and  what  should  be  the  configuration.

 -  How  much  increase  in  electricity  bill  should  I  expect.

 -  I  am  also  inclined  towards  LED  but  the  techincality  behind  LED's  boggles  me   Smile  .  How  many  watts  of  LED  should  be  used  and  what  should  be  the  configuration...

Requesting  your  guidance  and  help  in  above  questions.

 Regards

 Sanjay  Dubey

 Sanjay
I  have  no  experience  with  large  tanks  and  MH.  I  remember  Tirtha  doing  an  algae  farm  on  a  4x2x2  using  300  Watts  MH,  and  that  tank  was  two  feet  tall.  I  don't  think  you  need  400+  watts  if  you  are  on  MH.  Try  PM/mailing  tirtha.  I  am  sure  that  he  will  have  words  of  wisdom  for  you
