Provide a covered tank with leaf litter and peat moss setup.
Few caves along with branches will help them settle well
Fresh water to be provided everyday and ensure that there is a basking light for them.
Spray the setup with water to keep the humidity high.
Hope this helps. |

First off do not handle your newts too much as they release a toxin which if enters the body causes paralysis and sometimes death:shock: and too much handling will cause the newts skin to dry out ,so before and after your handle your newts wash your hands or get a pair of latex gloves and as surya said the tank should have a cover. Do not provide a basking light these are newts not turtles . their skin has to be moist. since they are found in the mountain region of china they require water of temp 75-80 f or room temp is fine higher the temp and they'll get stressed and sick and
If your living in a hot place, hang some ice in a cloth and let the water drop in the tank.
If the newts are juvies the u should have more land mass then water in the tank in the ratio 3:1 and the water should be shallow to prevent the young newts from drowning and if they are adults they spend most of their time in the water so u should have a heavily planted tank with about 8-10 inches of water cos they love to rest and hide amongst the plants. Set up a rock setup that breaks the surface of the water or pile up some gravel in the corner and have some floating plants cos sometimes they like to get out of the water. Have a filter that agitates the water less (a sponge filter is the best). All the best raising your newts. |

| What do you feed these newts . I had seen them at an LFS where they died of starvation as they refused to eat anything provided . |
