(Hey guys this is ma first post. pls corrct me for anything wrong
i hope sm1 will reply cause ive been rackin my brains for sometime now.. )
I hav a 40 lit 1*1.5*1.3(ht)feet tank
i put some ten hemianthus my friends gave me but they're not doing really well
its onl 3 days since i set my tank
and i have come cabomba and another(sagitarius grass i guess??)
som leaves of cabomba hav started to fall is it natural????
i have layered contro soil 10 litres i.e 3 to 4 inches no other gravel
have a PL light philips 40 watt real bright
no nutrients
a shoal of six neon tetras.
MY QUESTIONS ARE:
1.which would be the most prudent cheap but yet efficient source of co2 for my modest tank??
tablets?
a)yeast+ sugar method?
if yeast + sugar method is efficent for my sized tank what shall i get for a diffuser?
and where would i get it?
pls note that i have a really small budget i've alrady spent a lottt....
2)co2 tablets?(do they really work?)
3)Is cylinder really necessary for a small tank as mine?
4)Isnt the co2 from fish enough?(i am planning to add a (betta small one) and a shoal of harlequins as well )
4)Is a nutrient necessary?
5)Hw many hours shud i switch it on??? the guy at LFS told me for two hrs only as algae would develop but i cant believe it will two hrs be sufficient most sits i ve searched say i have to keep my lights on for 8 to ten hrs a day.
6)hw many days would i have to wait for a nice carpet to grow?????? |

If you have more plants it's better to provide external CO2. fishes do provides CO2 but quantiy matters.
Regarding cheap source for CO2. Sugar + yest will be just fine. Around 1bubble a second should be enough. But more is better. I can give you more details of you want. Regarding defused, the ceramic defuser won't work as pressure is less. There is something called bell defuser. Of you get one you can try it. But if you have a internal filter then the best way would be to connect the CO2 output to your filter air input. I am using this method. So far best result. |

I have my tank with 12 Neons fishes. With external EHEIM filter.
My Tank size is 31 cm Length, 16 cm With , 18 Cm Height.
My Question is about how to make DIY Co2 Equipment?. Is this good cost wise and Quality wise and maintenance wise.
.?
Or
If i buy a CO2 cylinder with complete Kit.. Then this will me be good in quality wise and maintenance wise. |

Hi Ganesh,
DIY CO2 reactor is suffice for your tank. Do tell the plants in your tank so IAHians can confirm.
Regarding how to make it, google for the DIY Yeast reactor(u need a 2 littre coke bottle, tbsp yeast, sugar till the bottom mark of coke bottle and silicon tubes). |

Lot of youtube videos are there which you can follow.. all you need is empty cold drinks bottles and some pipes and bread yest and sugar.
Ya its damn cheap but if you have enough time do it. At least plan for an hr time needs to be invested in a week for cleaning and refilling the stuffs. I started doing it but after a month or so i became too lazy to continue. Remember it also smells a bit like
CO2 complete kit comes with around ~5K with all stuffs. One time investment and then refill every 3 to 6 months based on your use. You can add timer and stuffs and save CO2 in night which you can't do in DIY easily. |
