Thanks Partha & Pavan
I got assassins in 2 colors .. jet black and zebra ... not sure if thats a male female thing ..
Experts may be able to elaborate ..
But theyre cool anyways ... keep down the snail population in the tank.
Plans are to stock about 10 shrimp and another 5 yamatos (there are 6 currently), another 10 otos (currently at 9) ... 1 more whiptail, a pair of starlight bristlenose and hillstream loaches thats if i am able to bring down the temps to about 27.
Lets see lets see ... first i gotta get more plants in and am waiting for the glosso to carpet |

are u sure that the black snail is an assassin cos if it is your luckey cos-fully black are super rare . I maybe wrong but to me it looks like a Tylomelania zeamais which is still a hard snail to get |

@ Johnny - I got it from the LFS as an assassin ... It behaves like one too saw it kill a snail once .. I dunno man ...I promise to give you some if they breed though if you can get them picked up ... :D
Maybe I can show the snail to some experts in mumbai - Any volunteers?
@ Supro - Thanks buddy .. waiting for the plants to settle in ... especially the glosso ... will post the next pics then |

Darius :: 19 ottos ,1 whiptail,2 bristle nose that is way tooooooo much for a 4 feeter i think.
Else you will have to put some algae wafers to keep them full |

Yep you are right Jabba ...
Too many algae eaters ... Cant help it man ... love them ...
But im toning down the Oto numbers to 12 ..
the remaining 7 otos will go into a 3 feet Oto only tank ... Cant have enough of Otos |

Hi Guys
As shown earlier .. I pulled out (literally) my old 4 feet tank to set up a new scape. I updated a few pics earlier showing the initial plant set up ... well about a couple of months have elapsed since then and much progress has been made, though I am still planning plenty of changes to the layout.
Last month I had a GWA outbreak that occured during a couple of busy weeks, which led to much fussing and frowning and a lot of water changes. After the water cleared out a bit I finally installed a UV sterilizer to help clear the final leg.
A couple of flora were removed from the tank - Tonina Belem (Light not sufficient) and Glosso. For foreground ... I decided I would go with Pearl Weed .. They do not carpet per se, however the do make some lovely runners and grow about 2-3 inches high which look I liked much better for this tank than the ground hugging glosso.Obviously theres no better carpet than glosso IMO. But just for a change I felt this look would be nice.
Next I added some purple Mint which is still picking up.
On the wildlife front. I added harlequin Rasboras, some yellow and red fire shrimps, WC mountain minnows and cardinals.
Here are the tank specs -
Dimensions - 48 x 18 x 24
Lighting - 54 x 4 T5HO, 2 - 12000k & 2 - 6500k
CO2 - Pressurised, double stage regulator, Max Mix reactor through filter outlet at about 1-2 bps
Substrate - Aquaclay, Red soil & Azoo plant grower bed (just a small layer, I use this as a top up wherever required)
Fertilizers - Aquabloom micro & macro (although currently I dose it very infrequently)
WC - 20% x 2 per week
Flora - Pearl Weed, Dwarf Saggitaria, Blyxa Japonica, Green Aromatica, Purple Mint, Anubias Nana, Rotala Green, Ambulia, Ludwiga, Some hairgrass, HC Cuba & Hydrocotyle.
Fauna - 9 x Otos, 10 x cardinals, 6 x rummy nose, 6 x Harlequin rasboras, 2 x cherry barb, 2 x SAE, 4 x Yellow Fire shrimps, 4 x red fire shrimps, 6 x yamato shrimp, 1 x red panda whiptail, 2 x guppies, 3 x banjo cats (1/2 inch), 2 x guppies, 6 x WCMM
Pics in the following post
Hope you like it.
CHeers - Darius
