 Tank  looks  nice  but  thats  a  thick  layer  of  sand  for  a  discus  tank.  I'm  not  sure  how  you  are  going  to  avoid  dead  areas.
 This  setup  is  more  suitable  for  a  Eartheater  tank.
 All  the  best.

Driftwood  placement  does  not  look  natural  at  all.  Blue  Diamond  itself  is  a  bad  choice  being  naturally  timid  strain.  These  6-7  feet  tanks  are  complete  wastage  of  space  for  fish  like  discus.  You  could  utilize  such  tank  for  other  space-demanding  cichlids  instead.

 This  is  the  one  one  time  i'll  agree  with  Yogesh.  This  setup  looks  totally  unsuitable  for  a  species  like  discus.  The  driftwood  also  looks  out  of  place  positioned  as  they  are  in  front  of  the  plants.  The  plants  themselves  have  been  crammed  together,  looks  suffocating.  I  guess  these  are  early  days.

 Back  up  with  what?  Do  you  want  a  power  point  presentation  about  why  it's  not  suitable  for  discus?  You  should  expect  some  criticism  when  you  post  in  a  public  forum.  And  i  haven't  made  a  statement,  just  expressed  my  opinion  which,  incidentally  you  can  totally  ignore.

 Anyway  since  we're  at  it,  here  goes  -  Even  I  personally  prefer  a  natural  look  for  discus  rather  than  a  dull,  bare  bottom,  something  that  mimics  their  south  amercian  biotope  (rooty  driftwood  instead  of  chunky/logs,  some  leaf  litter,  diffused  lighting,  black/brown  water,  etc  )

 There's  another  hobbyist  from  Pune  (forgot  his  name)  who  has  done  something  similar  for  his  Altum  Angel  biotope  and  it  looks  quite  impressive.  You  should  check  it  out.

 @Sid,
 We  definitely  enjoy  your  'right  on  the  face'  approach  which  the  person  on  the  recieving  end  may  not,  especially  when  he  has  been  planning  this  scape  for  a  long  time  based  on  his  sense  of  aesthetics.

 @Hamza,
 Dear,this  is  the  first  time  you  disappoint  me!
 Probably  the  fact  that  you  have  taken  a  leaf  straight  out  of  Jeff  Senske's  creation  and  not  stuck  to  your  trademark  originality,  is  the  reason!However,  the  original  work  was  named  "Heiko's  lesson"  and  have  received  favorable  reviews  from  the  legendary  Amano.
 Use  of  sand  may  be  detrimental  for  maintaining  a  discus  tank  in  the  long  run  primarily  due  to  the  dead  spot  factor  as  Nayak  rightly  pointed  out  and  a  high  probability  of  cloudy  water  during  water  changes.You  can  consider  using  a  substrate  (easily  available  at  most  LFS)  that  resembles  slightly  bigger  grains  of  sugar.

 @sid
 no  am  not  dumb  enough  to  need  a  power  point  presentation...not  from  you  at  least.i  expect  crticism  which  is  why  i  post  tanks  here.and  i  never  claimed  this  to  be  a  biotope!so  the  question  of  rooty  driftwood  black/brown  water  diffused  lighting  etc  does  not  arise.
 you  said  my  tank  is  not  suitable  to  discus..why?thats  all  what  am  asking.

 @aquarius
 you  have  commented  on  all  my  aquariums  in  the  past  and  i  truely  appreciate  you  giving  me  an  honest  opinion  about  this  one.yes  am  getting  more  and  more  inspired  by  jeff  senske  and  his  tanks.maybe  i  have  done  enough  of  biotope  aquariums  in  the  past  so  wanted  my  next  few  to  be  a  little  different.maybe  down  the  line  i  may  again  switch  back  to  biotopes.i  have  never  kept  a  tank  same  for  more  than  a  year  or  so  and  this  one  will  be  no  exception  Smile  The  minute  i  had  seen  this  jeff  senske  tank  i  knew  i  wanted  to  do  something  close.the  contrasting  colors  of  the  backdrop  fish  plants  wood  sand  really  got  me  interested  and  i  kept  planning  my  tank  using  this  one  as  the  base.i  have  planned  a  few  more  tanks  on  this  design  language  so  a  few  more  to  come.maybe  i  have  never  done  such  kind  of  tanks  before  hence  needed  some  inspiration.
 The  blindspots  is  one  thing  i  will  work  around.again  am  not  going  to  stuff  20  30  discus  in  this  maybe  between  8  to  12  and  with  few  tetras  the  biolod  will  be  very  light.

 @yajur
 thanks  i  love  your  tank  as  well!
 Hamza

 Not  a  bad  attempt  to  blindly  follow  Jeffrey's  tank.  But  not  good  enough.

 Dear  Swarnendu,  you  noticed  my  rather  blunt  edge  ¬†Very Happy  .  I'm  working  on  being  more  diplomatic  though.  I  feel  strongly  at  times  ¬†especially  in  case  like  these  because  there's  so  much  one  can  do  with  a  tank  this  size.  There's  so  much  to  play  with,  literally.  However  tanks  this  size  require  a  different  kind  of  hobbyist  so  hats  of  to  Hamza  for  pulling  it  off.  It  must  hv  taken  a  hell  lot  to  build  this  setup.

 My  comments  (and  yogesh's  who  apparently  is  silly  because  he  does  90%  water  changes  and  keeps  his  discus  in  a  bare  bottom  set  up)  are  meant  with  the  nicest  intentions  and  ultimately  Hamza  should  do  what  works  best  for  him.  But  if  we  can  make  him  aware  of  the  potential  then  why  not?  For  e.g  if  he  had  the  space  for  a  7footer  then  maybe  he  had  space  for  a  sump,  for  extra  filteration  and  a  solution  for  the  dead  spots  etc.  Its  just  a  thought.

 And  lord  have  mercy  why  blue  diamonds  (or  whatever  they're  calling  it  these  days)???  they're  common  n  cheap  and  readily  available  and  look  artificial  and  adulterated.  I  wish  hamza  could  go  that  extra  yard  for  more  beautiful  strains.  After  such  an  mega  effort  why  not  go  the  whole  hog?  If  i  had  a  tank  this  size  I'd  want  it  to  stand  out  man.  I'd  want  to  keep  something  rare.  I'd  go  to  the  dams  outside  pune  and  bring  back  a  pair  of  C.Maurlius.  A  hobbyist  in  Europe  recently  bred  the  Marulius  in  a  similar  sized  tank.  How  delicious  would  a  shoal  of  E.  Canarensis  look  in  this  tank?  I'm  just  frothing  at  the  thought.

 @hamza,  dude  what  a  beautiful  tank  man.  love  the  driftwood,  love  the  sand,  love  the  plants,  love  the  water.  Simply  stunning,  fantastic.  Just  one  word  for  blue  diamonds  'lazily'  floating  -  Drool.  This  is  the  best  looking  tank  i  have  seen  in  a  long  time.

 PS:  by  the  way  I  have  no  idea  how  to  use  power  point.

 Why  not?
 What  is  wrong  with  Blue  Diamonds?
 Why  don't  you  stick  to  what  you  thought  would  look  good  for  your  setup  and  ignore  what  wouldn't  to  someone  else?
 Blue  diamonds  with  red  iris  are  one  of  the  most  stunning  strains  in  the  discus  world  and  I  am  not  referring  to  the  junkyard  varieties  that  seem  to  have  flooded  the  market  in  India.I  had  the  good  fortune  of  witnessing  a  group  of  such  beauties  at  Shiva  Nair's  hatchery  a  few  months  back  and  was  literally  stunned  by  the  aesthetic  appeal  they  command  in  a  group.
 Alternatively,  you  can  settle  for  some  cobalts  though  Yogesh  would  term  them  as  out  of  'fashion'.
 Speaking  of  Yogesh,  I  was  under  the  impression  that  he  has  given  up  on  discus  for  the  time  being!
 Yogesh,  prove  me  wrong!!!!

 Hey  Hamza,  nothing  is  specifically  unsuitable  in  your  set  up  for  a  species  like  Discus;  the  rocks,  sand,  wood  are  fine.  I  just  meant  that  given  the  size  and  the  scope  you  can  do  a  lot  more  with  it.  But  there's  still  a  long  way  to  go.  The  fish  haven't  been  added  yet,  once  they  are,  it'll  be  different  story.  Also  what  i  realized  is  that  the  photograph  doesn't  really  do  justice  to  the  scale  of  the  tank.
