 Hi,

Just  gonna  name  a  couple  which  will  definitely  help  you  in  sourcing  them  from  your  local  Surgical  supplies  shop.  You'll  find  them  in  the  yellow  pages.  Shop  around  for  the  best  prices  or  even  better  get  your  doctor  cousin  to  get  them  for  you  for  a  doctor's  discount.

 1.  Alternative  to  Curved  Cutting  scissors:

Metzenbaum  Scissors  Curved  18"  Tungsten  Carbide.  Nelson  Metzenbaum  Scissor  18"  (45.5cm)  Regular  Tips  with  Tungsten  Carbide  Inserts,  Curved

Adding  link  just  for  your  reference:  http://www.hnmmedical.com/general/scissors/metzenbaum-scissors-curved-18-tc.html

You  can  even  get  24  inch  long  scissors.

 Thanks  Rohan,
Even  I  was  thinking  visiting  local  surgical  shops  to  pick  up  some  scissors  and  tweezers  but  was  just  a  bit  worried  about  the  proper  names  of  these.
Now  I  know,  I'd  sure  give  a  visit.  Smile

I  have  been  using  the  scissors  and  the  prongs.
I  have  not  paid  more  that  Rs.100  for  any  of  them.

The  planting  forceps  I  use  are  I  think  are  8  or  10  inchs  long  and  were  for  Rs.  90.
I  just  got  one  last  week  hence  remember  clearly.

They  are  not  much.  In  fact  i'll  check  with  my  supplier  and  see  if  he  can  ship  some  for  a  discounted  price  to  IAH  members.

 just  an  update  again

Went  hunting  for  these  today  around  Vanivilas  hospital  (KR  Market)  Checked  all  the  shops  that  sell  surgical  items,  but  none  had  the  size  &  all  looked  pretty  cheap.  I  also  felt  that  the  chinese  have  entred  this  segment  too.  All  were  a  loose  pack.

The  only  buy  i  made  was  the  "Dissekt-Rite  Specimen  Forceps,  12  inch  Straight  one"  nobody  had  a  curved  one.  This  was  my  only  luck  since  i  was  asking  a  lot  of  questions  on  size  when  the  shop  owner  came  down  to  hand  me  the  Forceps  else  this  also  would  have  missed  out  !!!

On  enquiring  with  the  shop  on  "Metzenbaum  Scissors  Curved  18"  Tungsten  Carbide.  Nelson  Metzenbaum  Scissor  18"  (45.5cm)  Regular  Tips  with  Tungsten  Carbide  Inserts  or  Curved"  they  just  laughed  it  out  saying  where  was  the  need  for  such  long  scissors  !!!

So  did  not  check  for  the  24  inch  long  scissors  at  all.

The  only  thing  that  the  shops  were  saying  was  that  it  has  to  be  custom  made  &  min  qty  would  be  20  Pcs  (cost  i  did  not  check)

Now  the  only  option  is  "Travel  to  Mumbai  !!!  "

Karthik  you  should  have  told  them  the  24  inch  scissors  is  for  a  cow's  autopsy  !
I  got  my  24  inch  forceps  from  a  veterinary  supply  place  about  12  years  ago,  still  going  strong  !

are  you  serious  sir  as  the  medical  supplies  stores  were  very  amused  when  i  told  that  i  wanted  a  18"  scissors.  if  you  have  seen  any  vetrinary  supply  shops  pls  suggest,  though  i  stay  towards  (6  kms  from  vetinary  institute)  have  not  seen  any  supply  shops  for  vetinary...
