thanks lawrence for your info,
need some more detsils as to- have you tried using them as a replacement for Thermocol ???? your suggestions.
Also is there any specific width & length it comes in. how thick are they & are they strong enough to hold the weight of the entire aquarium.
Thanks in advance. |

Run a black tape around the edge of thermocle sheet.
It will blend in between stand and aquarium bottom. |

thanks for the easy option out sandeep, but looking for a more permanent solution where i dont have to run around with the tape maybe every 2 or 3 weeks....
Unfortunately shifting the aqurium is not an easy job (even without water)
Hence i asked for a substitute for thermocol which can be a fix it forget it types until the real need to change it or checking the substitute comes in...
Thanks anyways |

Did not get you, why would you want to change the tape every 2-3m weeks, maybe I did not understand your requirement. |

ok the reason i want a substitute for Thermocol is :-
1) its white in colour
2) Its not attractive & distracts sitting in between the tank & stand / cabinet
3) most of the times Thermocol is where it was put when the tank was first installed
hence looking for a (even if not cheap) a closer substitute which would be black in colour & not very costly.
The reason i told i may have to change the tape is that when the thermocol shrinks with the weight of the tank the tape peels off (my experience). the only other idea is to paint the thermocol black (fabric colour only) but all these are short term options. was looking for a permanent solution.
hence the hunt... |

Hi karthik,
I have used the black industrial rubber foam for my tank. They are very good substitute for thermocol. You get that sheet in all thickness. I have seen them from 4mm and above.. Depending upon the size of the tank, choose the appropriate thickness sheet.
For my 36"Lx24"Wx18"H tank, I have used the 6mm black rubber foam. I got it from JC road, Bangalore. |

Just An update...
Finally got hold of the Sheet today at JC Road. Did not have to look for it for very long. I was actually shocked to see it initailly since there is a layar of White powder which was on the Sheet. Tried Washing it & its better now.
This can definitely be used as a Substitute for Thermocol & it it looks far far good. Try it... |
