Update
After adding more soggy bread. Today the culture is not smelling that awful but it reminded of baby food Farex.
See attached photo
These worms are small and fat ! So obviously not micro.
So what are these white worms ?
Looks like my rice turned alive
|
Looks more like the maggots of fruit fly.
You get the same when some how the fruit flies get into your microworm culture and lay their eggs.
It happend to me twice but instead of the babies getting their food the bigger bettas got their food. |

|
|
I finally got my microworm culture (Thanks Vipin) and started growing them
Some Questions
Does the contents look like this ?
Assumed these were the worms on the side of the dabba. So I fed the fish. They went crazy chomping away. In the water the worms looked like minute white thread spots sinking. Correct ?
Does water collect at the top of the lid ? Or is my areation not enough. I'm afraid to make more holes lest flies get in. And I keep this in a dark cool area.
When should I begin a new culture? end of 1 or 2 weeks ? The current culture does smell but its not that kind of awful rotted smell
Thanks |

| That's absolutely mw. You should feed only from sides with the help of a ear bud. And your culture is ready for making a new culture culture. |

Tks deepakg
After how many days do you start a new culture ?
Is it good to follow this pattern by starting a second new culture when the first one is at its peak level and then by the time the 1st culture dies off I will have my second ready....and so on. So the question is. What are the peak level days ?
Can someone let me know what trend they follow ?
Thanks |

its always better to have 2 cultures running at the same time because if one of it crashed or anything goes wrong then u have a spare culture with u....u can make more holes and cover them with a piece of net or cotton....
what i do is set a new culture approx after 7 days....and i have kept 4 such small containers
what medium are u using to keep the culture alive, is it white bread or wheat flour?? |

you should always have two cultures running. Now... You should fix two days in a week when you replace them. Like... one on Sunday and another on Wednesday. Usually they are safe for a week if you are using common white bread as food. Or use cornflour for a more stable culture. Also its always better to harvest them or they will suffocate because of over crowding. Hope that answers your questions. |

When you say "harvest them" do mean feed the fish, right ? |
