 Hi  Guys,

After  a  couple  of  years  of  learning  (the  hard  way)  from  my  50  Gallon  Tank,  Iv  finally  got  my  new  150g  Tank.

I  got  the  whole  tank  made  by  my  LFS  guys  assistant  who  fortunately  for  me  recently  quit  and  was  looking  for  such  jobs.  Sourced  all  the  items  at  a  reasonable  rate  and  put  together  at  my  place.

 Tank  Stats:
 Display  Tank  Size  -  48"x24"x24"
 Sump  Size  -  36"x18"x18"  -  4  Compartments
 Sand  Bed  -  2"  to  3"
 Live  Rock  -  150  Kgs
 Lighting  -  2x150W  MH  (20,000K);  2x4'  T5's  (10,000K)
Water  Flow  -  Just  one  normal  wave  maker  and  a  couple  of  power  heads.  Ill  buy  a  Vortech  40  soon.

Todays  the  third  day  the  tanks  been  up  and  running  and  the  following  are  the  parameters
 Salinity  -  1.025
 Ph  -  8.4
 Ammonia  -  0  ppm
 Nitrite  -  0  ppm
 Nitrate  -  10  ppm

You  can  view  the  pictures  by  clicking  here  here

I  added  some  bacteria  today  to  the  tank.  What  should  my  next  step  be?

 Any  suggestion  is  welcome  guys.

 Cheers,
 Gokul

I  am  using  a  HOB  Skimmer  from  Reef  Octopus.  Its  model  number  is  BH-2000  and  is  designed  for  a  150g  capacity.  I  actually  had  it  for  my  earlier  system.  Ill  have  it  upgrade  it  soon  after  the  bio  load  increases.

I  don't  have  a  chiller  at  the  moment  but  I  may  have  to  go  for  it  soon.  The  water  temperature  seems  to  be  quite  high.

Any  suggestions  for  a  good  chiller  and  do  I  actually  need  it  now.

So  far  the  setup  seems  good.  I  like  the  aquascape   Smile

What  are  your  plans  for  the  tank?  FO,  FOWLR??  You  will  need  to  clarify  this,  for  further  advice.  If  FO  only,  you  don't  really  need  the  MH  lights.

The  sump  design  etc  all  seem  adequate  at  the  moment.

Sand  bed  of  2-3  inches  is  not  a  great  idea.  Try  to  keep  within  2"  or  4+".
Assuming  this  is  fine  sand  you  will  use.  Also  suggested  would  be  building  a  shelf  for  your  live  rock  to  maximise  sandbed  usage.

The  Plan  is  to  go  all  out  mate.  A  full  Fledged  Reef  Tank.  Hence  I  went  for  the  MH  lighting.  Infact  I  am  in  love  with  them  already.  They  are  so  much  brighter  and  better  than  my  previous  T5's

 Ok  Guys,

I  know  I'm  gonna  draw  a  lot  of  criticism  for  doing  this  but  here  it  goes.

I  have  a  three  spot  damsel  and  a  moon  tail  damsel  in  my  previous  tank  along  with  a  sea  fan,  a  plate  coral  and  a  daisy  coral  and  six  purple  tip  anemones.  I  had  to  dispose  the  earlier  tank  and  could  not  find  a  new  home  for  these  guys.  I  checked  the  parameters  in  my  new  tank.  It  was  0  ammonia,  0  nitrite  and  10ppm  Nitrate.  I  took  the  risk  and  put  them  in  there  in  a  pan  of  two  days.  They  all  seem  to  be  doing  great  at  the  moment.  The  ammonia  and  nitrites  are  still  at  zero  after  a  couple  of  days  but  the  Nitrate  has  increased  to  20ppm.

Iv  got  about  150  kgs  of  really  good  quality  LR  which  has  been  properly  cured  in  my  earlier  tank.  Is  it  possible  that  my  tank  has  already  cycled?

 Seniors,  I  need  your  advice.

 Thanks.

 Hi  Guys,

A  quick  update.  The  Fish,  Corals  and  Anemones  seem  to  be  doing  just  fine.  I  just  checked  the  parameters  and  the  ammonia  and  nitrite  are  still  at  0.

I  can  see  that  detritus  has  started  to  form  on  the  top  rocks  exposed  to  lighting  and  a  little  bit  here  and  there  on  the  sand  bed.  The  hair  algae  which  was  present  on  a  few  of  the  earlier  corals  seems  to  be  thriving.  Just  tested  for  Nitrates  and  its  at  4ppm.  It  was  earlier  at  20ppm.  Im  not  sure  if  its  come  down  due  to  the  hair  algae  absorbing  it  or  if  its  the  Nitrogen  Cycle.  Any  guesses  guys?

I  want  to  introduce  a  cleaning  crew  into  the  tank  now.  What  should  I  go  for?  Iv  got  around  150kgs  of  LR  which  could  do  with  a  few  residents.  its  of  places  to  hide  also.  My  tank  is  actually  a  180g  tank  but  after  the  LR  and  Sand,  the  total  volume  of  water  including  the  sump  volume  is  150g.

Here's  a  pic  I  just  took  from  my  cell  phone,  quality  aint  that  great  but  ill  try  and  take  some  better  pics  over  this  weekend.

Looking  forward  for  some  more  replies  and  suggestions  Guys.

 Hi  Guys,

Just  wanted  to  update  u  guys  on  my  tank  with  a  few  pics.  You  can  see  the  latest  pics  Here

All  my  fish  are  doing  fine.  I  just  lost  one  blue  damsel  in  the  beginning  and  that  was  mostly  due  to  bad  transportation  and  handling  of  the  fish.  Trying  to  get  my  nitrate  down  with  the  vodka  dosing  method.

 Cheers,
 Gokul

Tank  looks  nice  and  clean,  without  any  algae.  Are  you  using  a  skimmer?
