Nice catch guys! If any photos exist of those Badis badis from the Cauvery River I would very much like to take a peek, please
|
The original color is as it is in the first page. But right now in the tank this is how they appear.
They normally get their original color when feeding on blood worms, I am considering a darker background might bring back their colors... |

This Guy is the Alpha male - He lost a bit of his dorsal fin due to aggression.
I am hoping that they start to get back their natural color. I should be able to post more Pictures in the coming weeks... |

At Preeths: Marvelous, thanks for sharing. Do you have females as well? Would you have the un-resized version of the photo by any chance?
At Jabba: In my experience badids (especially wild ones) are very difficult to feed dried foods. Live and frozen however, are readily taken. |

@Stephan, If you can PM me your e-mail ID I can email the original Pictures.
I went back again and caught a bunch of 12 fish from the same location, So I hope I have a few females. Quite a few are between 4-5 cms in size. They are in a species only tank.
Initially I user Cardinia Sp shrimp (Live) then frozen blood worms and right now they are taking frozen brine shrimp. Pellets and dried food is ignored.
To really appreciate the colors of Badis you need a tank with mud as the substrate not gravel.
I have set one up, but not yet transferred the fish to it yet. |

The below one is a female i believe i have a few more but they are very shy and do not come out. the red focus light seems to scare them away. the males are not shy and respond when i come close to the tank.
I have put Mud into their tank and that has brought about a drastic change in their behavior as well as appearance. The stress levels are down and the color is much better. The female Badis is also gaining some color
And another Male with a female (top right corner of the frame)
Blame the Dwarf puffer for nipping on the tails..... I have noticed that the colors are much better when the water is turbid!
The algae is deliberate, makes the Badis feel right at home! |
