I have seen 4 types of red caps.
1. Normal Goldfish like brownish scales.
2. White scales(matte finish kind of)
3. White scales(mettalic)
4. White albino body.(only in these u will find the veins in the tail when young) |

This is a sign of nitrite poisoning.
Your tank has not cycled or cycle has been disrupted.
Add salt to your tank @ 1 teaspoon per 5 lit of water, perform 25% water change every three days for next 10 days.
When Nitrogen cycle in your tank is complete and all nitrites have been converted into nitrates the problem will disappear. |

| thanks for the info Sandeep used to have this problem in the initial days of fishkeeping used to think it was because of the poor water quality in the LFS. |

Nice to you that your fish are OK.
Disruption/incomplete nitrogen cycle are a major killer of fish, this can occur even in established tanks.
That is why one is advised never to suddenly increase no of fish, never clean substrate and filter at same time etc. |

I searched for an answer to this problem for a long time, finally found the answer in Diana Walstad's "Ecology of planted Aquarium".
It is the one of the best book on aquariums. |
