|

Hi Friends,
I am back with a DIY internal CO2 diffusor.
Inspiration is from Youtube videos.
This is pretty easy to do.
Results are really good as the CO2 is getting fully dissolved in water.
The bubbles coming out are almost invisible in size.
If you have this, you don't need a diffusor and a bubble counter.
Can open the bottom and clean the diffusor if needed.
The drawback is that you need a canister filter or powerhead to do this.
The below images will explain how to make it.

| "FROM CANISTER" this means water coming from the canister into the tank right? |

Wonderful DIY Sujo, very innovative idea for a simple DIY Co2 diffuser.
i guess the appropriate heading could be replaced with "CO2 diffuser" not "reactor" . just a suggestion.
Anyway your post, your hard work (to post the pic also and share )and your wonderful idea . , u get to choose the subject.
A good share, will be helpful for many.
Regards

Hi Asif,
Thanks.
But the idea is not mine.
Got the idea from Youtube.
I still wish to call this as reactor.
Please see the video (now added). Then you will understand this is doing something more than a diffusor.
If this is diffusor, I am curious to know what is co2 reactor.
How will you differentiate diffusor and reactor.
It is really making the CO2 into very fine bubbles and that is why I thought of posting it here.
Regards

Atleast you are honest- so whats new have you done here?

If this is diffusor,
Sujo

- this means diffuser- "mixing" IMO

Sujo
|
- this means REACTION- a reactor IMO is that bottle which mixes sugar+yeast+water to make CO2- fissssssssssh happens sometimes and BHOP-BANG-

This is how to differentiate between reaction and diffusion

Hi Garothmaan,
I got the difference now.
Thanks for clarifying this.
In the internet, there are many people who are calling this as reactor.
That is why I got confused.
Now the changes are done in the initial post.
May be there is nothing 'new' here.
Found something in Youtube.
I tried it and found working very well.
So I thought of sharing it here so that some people can save money on buying diffusors.
Also be ready to get troubled with more of my DIYs in future... Grrrr :whip:
Asif.
Thanks. You are the first person who pointed this. |

Hi Sujo,
Good idea...
I have a question on this.... what about the water pressure flowing out of the cannister ... dosent it push out the filter pad out.... and since the reactor is pushing the water down to the bottom, will there be enough water circulation in the tank.... |

It won't. (At least for me) - See the video.
If it is pushing it out, you may have to increase the size of the pad.

|
Yes. This is an issue.
Water will not circulate that much as the flow is towards the bottom.
I have kept in a slanted way to have some circulation. |

I really liked it but again this will take lot of space in aquarium.
The advantage of this design over shellys external co2 reactor is that this may not need a bubble counter. |

@Jabba
I agree.
Shelly's External reactor is better as it is external.
The only 1 issue I felt is that it is not transparent and we cannot see what is happening inside.
That is why I thought of playing with something transparent.
Keeping this internal diffusor can cause aesthetic issues, especially if your tank is small.
In thickly planted big tanks, this will go unnoticed. |
