hey  shashank..  this  is  how  it  is..

the  sump  is  10  ft  long  by  2  ft  wide..  there  are  two  partitions..  the  first  smaller  partition  is  4X2  (approx)  and  the  larger  partition  is  6X2  (approx)..  it  is  on  the  same  level  as  the  main  tank..

the  first  partition  is  linked  to  the  main  tank  by  a  bottom  drain  and  a  top  skimmer..  the  second  partition  holds  some  media..  the  heaters..  air  stones,  and  pumps..  the  pumps  are  connected  to  2  external  canisters  that  can  handle  close  to  14k  lph..  the  water  from  the  external  canisters  are  pumped  back  to  the  main  tank  through  a  pvc  pipe..

 top  skimmer  in  main  tank

bottom  drain  in  main  tank  (the  cowl  is  off  now)

the  main  tank  surface  is  not  flat..  it  is  a  slope..well..  more  of  all  the  sides  slope  towards  the  bottom  drain..  so  debris  will  move  towards  the  bottom  drain  from  the  current  generated  by  the  water  being  pumped  in..

so  debris  goes  from  main  tank  into  sump..  and  is  manually  siphoned  off..  recently  i've  put  a  fine  nylon  mesh  betwen  the  partitions  so  my  red  devil  pair  don't  kill  the  smaller  fish  i  have  in  the  other  partition..  this  works  in  another  way  also..  it  screens  large  debris  and  retrains  it  in  the  first  partition..

the  things  i  should  have  done  better  in  this  system  are..  i  should  have  had  more  bottom  drains..  if  the  pipes  that  bring  water  from  the  canister  into  the  pond  are  not  placed  right  the  debris  keeps  swirling  around..  eventually  goes  but  it  takes  time..

its  acting  more  of  like  a  refugium  than  a  sump..  but  serves  the  purpose..  hope  this  helps  mate..  cheers..

 hi  kaya...
have  been  following  the  thread  for  a  long  time...

its  always  a  pleasure  Very Happy   to  watch  your  2400G  pond..  and  its  amazing  to  see  these  giants  live  in  harmony...

   Clapping   Clapping  hats-off  to  your  dedication  towards  your  hobby....   Very Happy  its  a  dream  which  i  am  sure  every  one  who  is  a  true  hobbyist  will  always  have  in  his  heart....  Thumb Up

i  have  a  question  which  i   want  to  ask....  have  you  tried  to  feed  these  fishes  with  your  bare  hands  while  swimming   with  them..  or  do  you  once  in  while  sit  in  the  pond  and  play  with  them/touch  them  and  feed  them  with  food  in  your  hands?  maybe  its  a  stupid  question  but  i  would  love  to  spend  sum  time  in  the  middle  if  i  ever  manage  this  size  of  pond...  Smile

 regards
 peter

Thanks  Satya,  Deepak,  deba  and  Rajeswaran  (Enga  ooru  pakkam  kaanom?  diwali?)

Peter..  thanks  a  lot  Smile  not  a  stupid  question  at  all..  i  try  to  avoid  touching  them  and  playing  with  them..  the  reason  is  to  not  stress  them..  though  they  know  i'm  the  one  who  feeds  them  they  don't  interact  the  way  you  want..  Only  Akira,  my  largest  aro  lets  me  touch  him..  the  others  will  come  close  but  steer  away  if  i  dip  my  hand  close..  i  get  into  the  pond  to  clean  it  up..  its  just  like  how  if  you  go  into  a  swimming  pool..  shower  before  and  after..  soap,  lotion,  potions  and  deo  could  affect  them  so  i  take  care  not  to  harm  them..  i  doubt  the  arowana  and  catfish  will  come  close  to  me  when  i'm  inside..  the  oscars  are  a  curious  bunch..  they  keep  following  me  as  i  scrub  around..  hope  this  answers  your  question..  all  the  best  with  a  pond  when  you  can  manage  one..
