Medical Oxygen is best with hardly any impurity.........your fish will last longer.......

Impurities and contamination because of the way welding shop cylinders are handled, I agree. But lower concentration or percentage of O2 in those cylinders?

Commercial use Purity 95 to 99%. Rest will be air.
Food usage Purity 99.9%
Medical (human respiration) use Purity 99.9% with a some CO2 and nitrous oxide gas added ( laughing gas) for increased respiration and calming effect.
This was what I read a long time ago, maybe now that's all changed.
Worry more about temperature, duration of transport, number and size of fish, if it is possible to change water during the transit,
starving the fish for 3-5 days before the journey, packaging to avoid leakages in transit and not waste your time about purity of oxygen and non essential stuff.
If you change the oxygen frequently, but carry well fed fish and don't change water, you might end up with dead fish. |

If you can change all the water twice in 12-15 hrs, you don't need oxygen.
Starve your fish for a couple of days before travel. |

You need to have a minimum 10 big plastic covers for the fishes alone.
Carry extra covers for leakage and safety issues.
Heat should not be a concern since you are travelling in the night., but still look out.
Try putting them in a cardboard box , with styrofoam fillers used in Bean bags for cushioning.
Check out if any LFS have O2 equipment with them...else as suggested "Battery Operated Air Pump" should serve best.
All the best and let us know how successful you were. |

Just get some over sized bags, fill 1/4 with water and 3/4 with air or oxygen(preferred).
Double/triple pack the fish with news paper in between bags (helps absorb water in case of minor leakages and keeps the second bag away from the first).
Stop feeding the fish 3 days before transit.
Pack all the bags in a carton with news papers in between.
Board the bus and keep your fingers crossed till you reach.

Humaid |

I think yes... You can put it in luggage.
Do check rules for it. My friend transport through planes only. |

Iam not expert like may of these here but i will share my personal experience.
I once travelled for 7 hours carrying fish in a plastic container of 20 litre size.
I will not suggest the plastic bags as they are unrealiable .... also you are traveling in bus may spill.
Iam not expert on oxygen but 14 hours will be difficult i guess... also add 3hr for loacl tranport and waiting.
As suggested by many you can connect the battery operated airpump to the conatiner by making hole in the cap.
If you are traveling in good bus there are charging points which can be used.
for small size fish normal pastic water can can be used.
for big fishes which wont fit in the can mouth you should opt for a cleaned paint conatiner. PROPERLY CLENAED. or wide mouth 30 litre water conatiner.
both above are cheap and effective.
Photo below will help i guess.
I used option 3 |

fishes come from chennai to mysore, almost like 18 hours till they are opened. most of them will be in perfect condition. that too they will be crowded in bags.
