Hi Guys,
How about our own plants database on IAH contributed by our members.
Take a nice photo from your tank and post it here with name, scientific name, and other details..
Please don't post picture for ID purpose, and post only images from your tank and not from net..
Here is my first one..
Common Name - Asian Ambulia, Proper Name - Limnophila sessiliflora.
Growing nicely at almost 2W/G CFL Lighting, No Ferts and CO2, substrate is garden soil topped with river gravel.
Can be grown emmersed.. and grows wild in Indian water bodies too.

Great Initiative Nidhi Thanks!
Here are some thoughts -
I think each plant should have a separate thread and should come under a separate category in forums.
This way one can just click on the plant that they want to research on and review otherwise this thread will get very extensive considering the number of plants we encounter in the hobby. We would have to keep searching for the plant we are looking for not knowing on which page it is.
Can also have threads for fish as well.

Like your idea Nidhi !!... but instead of a single thread wouldn't it be better to have separate thread for each plant..... and provide information about the plant in this way [ see below link ]

Thanks for the support guys,
Darius and Joey, Actually the ideas you people have proposed is what I had in mind, but in order to do so we need to show the Moderators and Admins that this is worth it.. hence this initiative.
Hope the Mods are impressed.. and will work out some thing in this Regard.

Nidhi,
Lets forget the impression. Keep updating as and when you get time.
When we have enough profiles, just this post alone will do mate... and till then let the mods decide.
Many a times ago, people discussed for the database, but not started. Now that we have started we should be good to finish.

Yes saikumar, we will do that.. and this post is not about one man show, we need contribution from members who have plants and can point and shoot the camera..
Basically we normally know the profiles of plants from other sites, which are not based in India. so the info we get might not be true to Indian conditions. We need to know, how the plants are doing in our condition and what are the issues we are facing with plants. and some of the native plants we collect in collection trips cant be even Identified, I had to struggle for 2 days searching on the net just to ID a wild collected plant, which is not commercially available.. I finally found it was Potamogeton Pectinatus, so after doing the hard work ID-ing it.. we don't need to loose it, right..?
There are many such plants people collect in wild which need to be identified and documented.. so this is what made me start this.

yes nidhi this initiative is good.... Though it would be way useful to have it in the way Joey says. But it will be a tough job for the devolopers. Till then we can have this thread. Lets give them something good in this thread to start it. Ok here is what I know. Anubias(95% of its sub species): can be grown in moderate(2 watt/gallon) to low(1 watt/ gallon) of pll light upto 2 feet above the water surface. If kept in high light they will have heavy chance of getting algae. 1/5th of liquid fertilisation needed for high demanding plants. Must be tied to a litte rough surface with cotton thread since cotton thread will not choke the rizhome no matter how tight you tie. The reason being the thread will loosen up when it gets soaked in water. The rizhomes should be kept exposed which means it should not be digged in the substrate. Avoid moving them much in the tank. It prefers little hard water. Anubia barteri var nana, Anubia barteri var nana round leaf,Anubia barteri var coffeefolia,Anubia barteri var minima,Anubia barteri var nana eye,Anubia barteri var gold, anubia congonesis are good for mid ground. Anubia barteri var nana marble,Anubia barteri var nana wringled leaf,Anubia barteri var nana stardust,Anubia barteri var bonsai are unstable varieties or forms of nana and nana pettite so there is high chances of loosing the form. Some hobbyist claim them to be stable because a leaf of anubia will last atleast for a year and it takes atleast 1.5 week for any anubia to give a new leaf. Hence they get the impression of them being stable. Anubia barteri var nana petite is excellent fore ground plant except for the fact that they are slow growers. Anubia barteri var barteri,Anubia barteri var broad leaf,Anubia lancelota, anubia aungustofolia are good for back ground plant. Many other varieties of anubias like Anubia hastifolia and Anubia gigantea are very big to be kept in aquariums. Anubias can be mulitplied by cutting the rizhomes with atleast 3 leaves and little roots. They can also be produced from the flower it gives which resembles the anthurium flower in terrestrial plants. All the varieties of anubia can be grown emersed but the leaf will become bigger than their submerged version.

Previously, Trevor was the only one Posting pics of aquatic Plants, and doing it consistently.
Check out the album Aquatic Plants in Gallery.
We can Include a sub forum in the Planted Aquaria Forum only for Aquatic Plants, and disallow any replies
to a post by locking the thread, as meaningless discussions and newbie questions in each plant thread would make it horrible.
Believe me, when I say this. This can and will open up a can of worms, but as long as there is self moderation, it's most welcome.
For this we need a few good people who will take the pains to take good photographs, get the growing conditions,
and other requirements for each plant. Biotope pics and water parameters would be an added bonus, wherever it is possible
to include. Whatever information is posted has to be thoroughly researched, plant correctly identified, spellings should be accurate,
and the poster must have very good success with growing the plants.
It should not become a display area for the poster's tank shots, there are other sub forums on IAH to showcase your tanks.
All pictures must be linked only from IAH Gallery, and not any other photo sharing site.
Pictures must be original, and belong to the poster, if they are by another IAH member, credit must be given.
If some of you are willing to take this up, 1-2 to begin with, then it can be done immediately.
This will be a commitment, and a database in a few months of 15 plants will not serve the purpose.
This database has to be brought up fast.
Now, we need the Mods to spend some time Vetting these posts too.
So the information upfront must be verified and accurate, to avoid any deletions, corrections.
Please suggest a common format that must be followed for each post, which must be strictly adhered to.
Posts that are incomplete and not adhering to the format shall be summarily deleted.
Members must use the Report Post link to report any inaccuracies.
Consistent inaccuracies, plagiarised photos, Cut/paste work from the web, will invoke a ban without warning.
Any flames due to Mods actions, will not be appreciated.
These are some thoughts, which needed to be added to in the posting guidelines
We can have a go at it, but remember you want this as a database so presentation must be first class.
