 Hi  All  ,
I  have  been  gifted  6  very  Hungry  gold  fish  (5  Common  Fantails  +  1  Koi  ).  They  are  perpetually  hungry.  I  have  bought  an  60G  Tank  with  white  gravel.  I  have  put  in  some  artifical  plants  to  brighten  things  up  in  the  tank.  Are  there  any  natural  plants  available  in  Mumbai  which  the  goldfish  dont  eat?.
 tank  is  a  4  feeter  with  a  Ehiem  2217.

Well  avoid  plants  in  a  gold  fish  tank...  They  ll  circle  them  like  hungry  piranhas  for  an  easy  meal...  How  ever  you  can  try  out  some  hard  leaved  plants  such  as  amazon  Or  banana..,  which  they  won't  be  able  to  nibble  onto  quickly...  And  FYI  your  substrate  doesn't  support  plant  growth

All  kinds  of  Ferns  and  Anubias..  any  way  you  don't  need  substrate  for  these,  tie  them  around  driftwood  or  rocks.

Thanks  all  for  the  quick  and  informative  replies!  and  Nidhi  you  are  great  with  your  knowledge  and  wisdom!  Request  a  few  suggestions  for  specific  plants!  do  I  need  to  quarantine  the  plants  as  well?  The  tank  is  kept  next  to  a  frosted  glass  window  there  is  of  course  no  direct  sunlight.  I  want  to  avoid  a  co2  system  as  the  whole  set  up  has  initially  burnt  a  large  hole  in  my  pocket.  I  am  restarting  after  20yrs  things  were  simple  then.  I  will  post  a  few  pics  of  the  tank   soon!

 Thanks  again  guys!

 Peter

You  can  use  any  of  these  plants:

Plants  that  do  need  any  substrate

    Java  Fern
     Anubias
     Moss

 Plants  that  need  substrate

    Crypts
     Vallisneria
     Hygrophilas
     Watersprite

 Floating  plants

    Duckweed
     Hornwort
[u]

Choose  the  plants  depending  on  the  lighting  that  you  have.  Almost  all  plants  mentioned  above  is  not  high  demanding  plants.  Hence  you  can  grow  them  in  low/medium  light  conditions.  There  are  many  more  hardy  plants  that  would  be  suitable  for  a  gold  fish  tank.

 Try  the  Anubias  varieties.
They  dont  demand  a  high  light  or  even  a  CO2  requirement.
I  have  them  in  my  tank  n  with  the  conditions  mentioned  above.
They  are  doing  fine  and  growing  too.
Better  if  you  quarantine  them  for  a  day,  wash  them  in  luke  warm  water  with  a  lil  bit  of  rock  salt  and  leave  them  in  a  bucket  of  water.
Then  you  shud  be  good  to  add  them  to  your  tank.
All  the  best  !!!  Thumb Up
