 Hi  All,

Just  wondering  if  this  would  be  a  good  light  for  a  planted  tank

 http://www.ecat.lighting.philips.co.in/l/lamps/fluorescent-lamps/tl5/tl5-essential-super-80/927926786558_eu/

 Has  anyone  tried  using  it?

 Thanks
 Vijay

Yes.  of  course.  Just  check  whether  it  is  available  in  the  electronic  shops.

For  what  length  aquarium  are  you  planning  to  use  this.  Check  the  dimension  of  the  tube  and  see  that  whether  it  would  fit  your  hood.

As  far  as  lighting  spectrum,  the  light  is  very  much  compatible  for  the  planted  tank.

Thanks  Shelly.  I  actually  bought  one  of  these  for  my  living  room  and  found  the  light  to  be  really  good.  I  checked  the  length  (115  cm)  which  is  very  much  the  length  of  my  existing  light  setup.  I  have  a  4ft  tank  with  Aquazonic  lighting  fixture  of  4  X  56  W  ,  12000K  tubes.  Will  swap  the  tubes  today  and  give  it  a  try.  Smile

I  dont  if  you  would  be  able  to  use  this  28Watts  T5  tube  in  your  Aquazonic  lighting  fixture  (4  X  56  W).  Your  Aquazonic  lighting  fixture  ballast  is  rated  to  light  a  54Watts  and  the  Philips  T5  that  you  have  brought  is  only  28Watts!!!

So  you  are  trying  to  light  a  28watts  tube  with  a  54watts  rated  ballast!!!

 Shelly,

Do  we  get  56W  T5  6500K  lights  in  Philips  or  any  other  brand?

 Thanks
 Vijay

Yes.  54Watts  T5HO  is  good  for  a  2  foot  depth  tank.  With  reflectors,  it  would  be  better.

But  the  normal  28Watts  T5  would  have  less  penetration  for  a  2  foot  depth  tank.

Well,  I  think  there  is  no  harm  in  using  a  28W  T5NO  in  a  54W  T5HO  fixture.  Not  sure  about  the  ballast  though.
Power  after  all  depends  on  the  device  plugged  into  it.  The  28W  light  is  probably  going  to  use  the  same  current  as  in  a
28W  fixture.  The  54W  would  support  a  light  54W  maximum,  but  would  support  anything  below  it  too....  My  14W  tube  is  lit  by  a  35W  ballast.

 Hi  royalbijoy

Thanks  for  the  tip.  I  just  fit  my  28W  tube  to  the  54W  fixture  and  it  seems  to  work  just  fine

 Regards
 Vijay

all  these  lights  suck,  the  intensity  decreases  to  less  than  half  in  just  4-6mnths....  if  your  planning  to  grow  just  mosses  and  ferns  and  normal  light  plants,  then  these  are  fine  otherwise  go  for  LED  flood  lights  for  high  light  plants......
