Just  got  a  single  Black  ghost  for  Rs.XXX.
Wonder  what  food  they  take.  Is  it  destructive  to  plants?

They  come  out  at  night  and  need  sinking  food,  ensure  that  they  get  enough  food.
They  get  big,  never  kept  it  in  a  planted  tank.

Thank  you.  Can  you  suggest  any  particular  brand  for  them.  They  are  weakly  electric  and  feed  on  insect  larvae  in  the  wild  acc  to  wiki

I  have  A  15"  BGK  in  my  planted  tank,  he  does  not  damage  the  plants  .  Usually  feed  him  Hikari  Sinking  Carnivore  pellets.

Keep  a  pvc  pipe  in  your  tank.  Atleast  a  six  inch  for  now.  They  love  to  hide  in  the  day  time.

Give  him  sinking  wafers  just  after  light  out.
They  love  to  hide  and  if  you  give  them  place  to  hide  you  will  never  see  them.
i  way  out  of  this  is  to  give  them  a  transparent  hideout  like  a  large  horlicks  bottle  at  the  back  of  the  tank.
It  some  how  gives  them  a  feeling  of  security  and  you  can  watch  them  also.
This  is  how  I  kept  mine  for  nearly  2  years  before  it  died  due  to  a  stupid  accident  on  my  part.

Thanks  for  the  help  guys.  Got  a  friend  for  him.  Feeding  them  live  worms  for  now.  Hikari  sinking  pellets  are  around  2000  Rs  in  ebay.  Any  alternative  food  for  them?  They  are  about  7  cm  long  now.

If  there  are  prawn/shrimp  hatcheries  near  where  you  are,  you  can  purchase  Scampi  feed  which  is  extremely  cheap  and  also  yields  very  good  results.  Feeding  only  Scampi  though  is  not  recommended,  throw  in  a  few  more  varieties  of  food  like  Tetra  Bits  etc.

This  is  what  it  looks  like.

Tetra  bits  also  sink  to  the  bottom  so  you  could  try  it  on  them.  Also  ,  I'd  like  to  point  out  that  its  not  a  good  idea  to  keep  more  than  1  BGK  in  a  tank,  as  they  get  aggressive  towards  each  other.  I  think  it  has  something  to  do  with  the  electric  senses  conflicting.  It  should  be  ok  while  they  are  small,  but  be  careful  as  they  grow  bigger.

Saw  similar  discussion  about  the  impulses  confusing  each  other.  But  LFS  had  20  in  a  small  tank.  Maybe  they  will  require  separation  as  they  grow  bigger.  Even  now  they  are  territorial.

They  are  among  the  most  interesting  scaleless  fish.  Most  of  them  die  prematurely  because  fishkeepers  do  not  know  how  scalelessness  makes  a  fish  vulnerable  to  things  that  other  fish  are  not  much  affected  by.

They  look  great  in  glass  chimneys  sold  for  kerosene  lamps.

they  have  a  rare  beauty  alright.

They  like  eating  bits  of  chickent  liver  a  lot.  Earthworms  and  chickenheart  are  great.  Tetrabits  a  reliable  staple...
