 @  Bishwanath  -  Thanks.

@  Sid  -  Thanks  mate  and  agreed  that  Natives  are  frequenting  often  at  LFSs.

@  Deepak  -  Thanks  and  yeah  very  swift  guys  these.  Do  you  still  have  yours  which  were  spawning  I  suppose?

@  Saikumar  -  Thanks.  They  are  in  a  6  footer.

@  Ravabi  -  Thanks  and  hope  you  keep  them  soon.

@  Nayak  -  Thanks  and  very  well  said!

@  Balaji  -  Is  there  another  type?  Have  heard  of  two  variants.

@  Marc  -  Thanks  mate.  Guess  I've  been  bitten  by  the  Cyprinid  bug  looking  at  your  fish,  check  this  tank  mate  out....

 Regards,
 Tabrez

The  variant  has  red  tips  and  is  from  the  northern  part  of  Kerala  according  to  the  NBFGR  book.  Maybe  Marcus  can  shed  some  more  light  on  this???

Edit   :  The  book  has  a  picture  of  a  specimen  as  well.  A  completely  drool  worthy  fish.

Wow,  lovely  D.  rohani.  Great  Tabby,  welcome  to  the  world  of  Barbs  :)

BTW,  I  guess  the  red  tipped  Baril  is  a  variant  of  B.  bakeri.  I  think  I  have  posted  that  pic  somewhere  on  IAH...lemme  check.

@Tabrez  -  Unfortunately  I  lost  all  of  them  early  this  year.  I  plan  to  keep  them  again  in  future  and  will  surely  try  to  breed  them.
Was  planning  on  a  contraption  to  save  eggs  and  try  it  out  this  year.  But.....

And  what  I  had  were  B  bakeri.

@  Balaji  -  Thanks.  I  was  thinking  on  similar  lines  of  Marc  that  it  was  a  suspected  B.  bakeri  variant  and  AFAIK  there  was  a  discussion  on  Facebook  on  this  I  think.

@  Marc  -  Thanks  mate.  It  seems  an  enthralling  world  as  well!   Thumb Up

@  Sripad  -  Thanks,  will  PM  you.

@  ramsharma1972  -  Thanks.  Go  on,  get  your  dozen  of  these  Native  beauties!  Very Happy

@  Deepak  -  I  see.  That  video  of  them  was  truly  eye-candy,  maybe  some  more  again!

 Regards,
 Tabrez

@  Jabba  -  I  think  they  should  be  okay  in  planted  tanks,  not  the  heavily  aqua  scaped  ones  though.  I  have  a  lot  of  water  lilies  in  their  tank  as  partially  visible  on  this  picture.

Nayak,  Deepak  or  Marc  will  know  better.

@  Ramdas  -  Thanks.  They  get  to  about  5''.  I  reckon  they  are  not  yet  reported  in  Kerala  rivers  but  I'm  not  sure.

 @  vidhyasagar99  -  Yes.

The  picture  in  the  book  resembles  B.canarensis  (as  pictured  in  the  book)  more  closely  than  B.bakeri  actually.  Sent  you  a  picture  to  check  in  case  you  haven't  seen  it  already.
