Off an on in the past week I have been seeing molted skins of the dragon larvae on top of my floating plants. The dragonfly may have deposited some eggs through the fine net covering the bucket.
So I'm worried if there are any in the buckets because they are known to attack shrimps and fish too. And some species can live for 4 years in larvae stage.
My only solution is to drain the whole bucket move plants and fish to another standby container because if there are larvae they will be at the bottom of the bucket or anywhere
Anyone has another solution or suggestion on how to check thoroughly or even lure them out
I've read online that its a war that you cannot win with them
Thanks |

Yes the only option I know is "burn the house to kill the mouse".....
Save only the fish and shrimps and when you catch the shrimps be sure they are the shrimps..... |

Can I put any preventive medicine around the buckets to ward off dragon flies ?
For example like this diagram the dotted lines could be the medicine
-----------------------------------------------------------
" "

" Bucket Bucket Bucket Bucket "
" "
" "
-----------------------------------------------------------
Any suggestions on medicine, Or any natural elements like garlic, orange peel
Thanks |

Lakshman Rekha chalk will work only for ants and roaches..I doubt it will work for flying insects...
Pio - you may want to try this...keep some tobacco in cloth and tie that cloth near the buckets.
One of my cousin used to stay near Lower parel station and use to park his car in open. There was a rat menance in his locality and they used to chew up all the cables. So his mechanic suggested him this method and tie a piece of cloth with tobacco in it under his bonnet....it actually worked!! So, you can give it a try...if it keeps away rodents it should work for insects too...
Just my two cents.. |

@Ganesh
That will work for ants and cockroaches only. I'm not worried about ants cos the fish can eat those. I sometimes catch black ants with a drop of honey and feed those ants to my Zebra Longfinned Danios
@Aquacrazy_Ash
Thanks. That sound like a good suggestion. Its the smell and aroma around that small area that is needed.
Hope it will work for insects.
Ill tie the same and put it in my car engine bonnet for the rats that chew the wires
Right now we keep those poky brushes in the bonnet |

Hello,
I even had the same problem. But i have seen one thing, these larva do appear at the top of the tank, mainly on the stems of the floating plant, specifically at night time. Also you may see them climbing on the walls of the container at time.I slowly picked all of them gradually. Just wait for the night, and u can slowly hand pick all of them just by using a torch, just in case not to make them aware.
I have seen them appearing on the top of weeds in the river banks at night. And in broad daylight they easily get disturbed. You need to have patience as, you may not be able to pick them all, together.

When you catch a lot of shrimps and collect plants from the wild there's always a likelihood of a dragon fly larvae getting in and they are really as tiny as shrimps initially. I pulled some floating plants and shrimps from my bucket and them in my bowl where I was breeding Endlers and after some days wondered where a couple of my frys disappeared. Thanks to this guy. So I plucked him out with my tongs and kept him in a small Chinese Take Away Vinegar Sauce container....photo 1
It survived for 6 days in an airtight container with only half the water. A closer look at them and they look very alein-ish. These larvae are dangerous and can get in your outdoor containers or ponds. They attack frys and shrimps. I read online that they can survive for 6 years in submerged conditions as a larve. Ensure that you dont have dragonflys hovering around your outdoor containers especially two of them in a mating stage because they will deposit their eggs on your floating plants in your outdoor container. Get rid of them if you see these larvae....photo 2
