 Bump!

I  know  the  rules,  and  sorry  to  revive  a  bit  old  thread.  But  those
LEDs  do  look  really  really  tempting!!
Please  if  someone  tried  them,  post  the  results!

$130  something  for  a  24  LED  dimmable  kit  is  great!!!

Thats  a  stereotypical  statement.  I  am  sure  whatever  thing  you  are  accessing  IAH  from  is  made  in  china.Lately,  chinese  goods  have  been  offering  quite  good  VFM.  I  am  concerned  about  their  customer  support  and  results.

Its  not  stereotype,  its  the  truth.  Stuff  made  in  China  is  cr*p.  If  you  want  a  good  LED  set  up,  get  them  from  Rapid  LED,  their  24  led  kit  is  around  220$.

It  was  true  few  years  ago,  say  in  the  90s.
 C'mon  man!
They  have  some  pretty  good  customer  satisfaction  levels!
I  have  been  browsing  all  over  the  internet  since  the  past  few  hours.  Though  the  light  cant  be  compared  to  the  CREE  stuff,  its  completely  worth  the  buy.  I  was  hoping  someone  from  India  might  have  given  them  a  shot  so  I  posted  here.

And  the  rapid  led  kit  comes  to  around  $247.  And  this  guy  even  throws  in  a  fan  and  spare  LEDs  for  free!
I  guess  i  ll  have  to  be  the  scape  goat  here.

Welll  the  LED's  that  I  got  from  a  dealer  in  chennai  is  supposed  to  be  a  Chinese  produt.  Even  though  I  did  have  some  initial  trouble  in  getting  the  LED's  work  to  its  best  quality.  I  do  have  some  good  lighting  stuff  in  my  Planted  tank   Thumbs Up

I  think  for  Marine  tanks,  where  the  spectrum  and  par  ratings  are  very  imp,  its  best  to  stick  to  CREE  and  RapidLed  does  have  some  nice  kits  available..

yes  sir,  I  totally  agree.  PAR  is  what  is  most  important  for  a  marine  system.  BUT  these  LEDs  are  bridgelux  leds.  The  guy  is  just  packing  evrything  in  an  affordable  package.  I  haven't  come  across  any  negative  review  for  the  bridgelux  LED.   In  these  kits  there  is  not  much  scope  for  any  cheapness.  I  mean,  you  get  12  blue,  12  white,   40  degree  optics,  a  heat  sink,  and  two  dimmable  drivers  for  $99.  The  LEDs  are  a  reputed  brand,  and  the  drivers  are  OK,  you  can't  expect  more  for  the  price.

Plus,  $220  is  a  lot  for  someone  whoz  just  starting  in  the  hobby.

Dude,  one  buys  LEDs  to  save  money  in  the  long  run  over  conventional  methods,  both  on
 (a)electricty  to  run  and
 (b)electricity  to  cool  your  tank
Lets  see  if  $90  does  it.

Check  just  the  intensity  of  bridgelux.
lumens/watt,  and  you  ll  see  it  might  be  just  as  close  to  any  PLL/T5HO,  i.e.  around  75-80lm/W  AT-BEST!
(  if  at  all  this  parameter  was  good  it  would  have  been  advertised  on  that  link  Chuckle  ).

If  its  just  to  claim  of  a  LED  setup  and  nothing  after  that...  then  ATB!
...ye  even  these  can  grow  plants,  no  denying  there.  Just  that-  lets  not  give  a  wrong  impression  to  the  LED  new  mongers/beginners.

 Cheers!

 Hey  man,

Check  out  the  PAR  ratings  for  these.  I  know  they  arent  as  much  as  the  CREE,  but  worth  $100

...but  I  havent  commented  on  the  PAR,  and  its  more  with  the  intensity  &  optics-lens/reflectors,  not  its  efficiency.  Wink

So,  it  means  you  would  save  on  cooling  bills  at  best,  replacing  HOs  and  MHs(do  you  have  a  PAR  locus  for  these  TWO  as  well  to  compare?)

Yea  i  was  addressing  you,  no  one  else  seems  to  be  interested  Chuckle
Well,  its  not  as  much  as  t5s  and  MH  but  its  respectable.
Here  are  HO  and  MH  PAR  values  [  I  couldnt  get  them  in  a  similar  sized  tank  as  the  LED,  its  just  for  a  comparo]
 24x4  HO  lights
 950W  MH
The  MH  is  from  a  deeper  tank,  cosider  the  rating  till  the  12"  mark

Even  if  a  few  bulbs  burn  out,  it  wont  hurt  much  to  replace  a  $1.5  bulb,  would  it?
And,  isnt  PAR  what  is  most  important?
