PostPosted: Mon Dec 10, 2012 12:04 am Post subject: pressurized co2 setup help needed Reply with quote

 hey  friends

i  am  from  goa  ,  i  have  tried  diy  co2  setups  and  m  not  happy  with  the  growth  it  offered  so  decided  to  opt  for  pressurized  co2,
as  per  my  knowledge  i  feel  i  will  require  the  following   things
 co2  cylinder
 regulator
 needle  valve
tubing  (will  normal  silicon  tubing  be  sufficient  if  not  can  ul  suggest  me  which  type  to  go  for  )
diffuser/reactor  (  can  any  one  tell  me  whats  the  difference  between  these  two  and  which  is  better  )
is  a  bubble  counter  necessary  ?

i  have  been  doing  some  market  research  locally  and  found  a  local  gas  agency
that  gives   a  co2  cylinder  2kg  outright  purchase   for  3700  rs
they  also  give  cylinder  on  deposit  basis  that  is  7000  deposit  for  a  9kg  cylinder

i  also  found  only  one  co2  regulator  of  yamato  brand  (dual  guage  )for  1800  rs
i  have  not  bought  the  stuff  still  cause  want  to  be  sure  before  making  this  investment

i  did  not  have  any  luck  with  the  needle  valve  .
secondly  the  diffuser  is  not  available   in  goa   can  any  one  suggest  any  alternate  method  or  if  any  one  is  willing  to  help  me
to  purchase  it  ,if  it  is  available  in  his/her  locality  ,it  will  be  highly  appreciated.

secondly  do  any  one  find  the  prices  quoted  by  the  above  agency  expensive  please  do  tell  me  ,
will  online  purchase  be  worth  it   ,and  can  any  tell  me  how  to  go  about  online  purchase(i  mean  which  sites  are  best  to  buy  and  which  brand  is  the  best  )  ,
 is  it  worth  buying  complete  kits  online  ;

any  suggestion  from  fellow  hobbyist  will  be  of  great  help  to  me  .

 thanks  every  one

 marlon

Do  not  go  in  for  a  cheap  regulator,  go  in  for  a  branded  double  stage  regulator.
Cheap  regulators  will  create  problems,  specially  when  cylinder  starts  to  get  empty.
Silicon  tubes  are  not  built  to  withstand  high  pressures,  they  will  be  popping  off.
Get  tubes  used  in  pneumatic  stores,  it  is  normally  blue  in  colour.

 hey  sandeep

 query  for  you
is  yamato  regulator  not  good  enough  and  will  i  get  a  dual  stage  in  this  brand  ,,,,  secondly  can  you  tell  me  other  good  brands  and  their  approx  prices  ....

 thanks  sandeep

 hey  jerin
is  the  yamato  regulator  you  referring  is  a  dual  guage  ,  if  yes  then  the  rates  here  in  goa  are  very  very  high......
the  problem  here  jerin  is  that  i  am  not  getting  the  regulator  and  one  more  question  for  you  ,,,,,  as  sandeep  said  that  dual  stage  is  better  can  you  share  you  views  also  and  can  you  also  give  the  approx  rates  in  banglore  if  you  aware  of  them

I  have  not  used  "yamato"  so  cannot  comment  on  that,  I  had  purchased  "eagle"  double  stage  regulator  by  post  and  it  is  working  nicely  for  me.
Most  of  the  shops  which  sell  Co2  equipments  deal  with  welding  establishments,  and  co2  rate  is  not  very  critical  for  the,  so  they  are  not  very  easy  to  purchase.

If  you  have  trouble  finding  a  regulator  in  your  area,  you  can  talk  to  the  people  manufacturing  Eagle  regulator  in  Delhi.  They  will  ship  it  to  you  by  post.  I  had  put  up  the  contact  number  on  IAH  some  time  back.  Let  me  see  if  I  can  find  it.  They  were  very  helpful  and  shipped  it  promptly  after  I  transferred  money.

A  few  years  back  it  cost  me  about  1000  to  get  it  in  hand  from  Delhi.

Most  pneumatic  stores  in  your  area  will  be  having  needle  valves,  PU  tubing  and  reducers,  push  connectors  that  you  will  need  to  set  up  your  system.

Diffuser  is  not  necessary  if  you  rig  up  a  DIY  system  to  feed  the  CO2  into  the  outlet  of  a  powerhead.  That  said,  you  can  get  a  diffuser  online.

 Regards,
 Venkat

Quoted  from  Self  in  another  thread
I  have  to  mention  that  I  have  been  using  a  second  hand  Single  stage  Single  gauge  Dymax  Regulator  for  the  past  three  years  with  No  CO2  dump.  Been  through  four  cylinders  without  any  ill  effects.  The  double  stage  double  gauge  Eagle  regulator  that  I  got  is  still  sitting  in  its  box  unused  :-)

I've  had  issues  with  the  Eagle  regulator  (  Single  Stage  ).  It  went  well  for  about  2+  years,  then  started  to  give  issues.
The  output  pressure  is  2-3  psi,  even  without  any  turning  of  the  control  knob.  Things  become  worse  when  the  pressure  in  the  Cylinder  stats  to  decrease.
Regulator  repair  is  a  big  pain,  even  in  a  place  like  Bangalore.  So  I  just  dumped  it  and  went  for  a  branded  regulator  ESAB.  (  Single  Stage  ).   Cost's  2.5  times  the  normal  regulators,  but  I've  heard  from  people  that  it's  very  reliable.  Have  not  yet  used  it,  still  in  the  box.

P.S:  By  the  by  ,  I  also  have  a  second  hand  Yamato  regulator  on  my  other  cylinder,  and  it's  been  running  for  2  years  now,  without  any  issues   Chuckle  .  Don't  know   how  long  the  previous  owner  had  used  it.......  So  I  would  rate  Yamato  better  than  Eagle   Thumb Up

Even  I  had  issues  with  my  Eagle  regulator  and  so  have  some  others  on  the  forum.  Quite  a  bit  of  mixed  reviews  so  its  better  to  avoid  it

Hey  Marlon  Im  coming  down  to  Goa  on  the  27th  of  this  month  and  Im  going  near  the  place  where  I  can  pick  up  regulators.  I  will  pick  up  a  Yamato  single  stage  dual  gauge  regulator  for  you  along  with  the  right  size  needle  valve  and  if  I  can  get  my  hands  on  it  the  correct  tubing  as  well.  Shouldnt  cost  more  than  Rs  700,  dont  know  the  current  rates.  I  probably  wont  see  your  reply  but  Ill  pick  it  up  anyway   Thumb Up
