15  watt  More  then  enought  with  aluminum  can  reflector  it  will  work  find  ...  as  Zico  said  used  moss  for  foregound  and  and  moss  wall  i  agree  at  that  point..water  change  at  every  2-3  day  about  30%  will  be  very  enough  for  your  tank..

a  DIY  CO2  reactor  at  any  case  have  fluctuating  CO2  injection,  so  is  kinda  safe  provided  you  change  the  water  say  every  two  days  just  to  be  on  the  safer  side.  But  make  it  a  mandate  to  stop  the  CO2  injection  at  night  for  sure  and  run  a  pump  via  a  airstone!  15  to  18W  is  more  than  enough.  i'll  give  you  a  better  idea  -  since  this  is  a  exclusive  shrimp  tank..tie  xmas  moss  to  stones  and  make  a  carpet  out  of  it  -  this  will  serve  two  purpose  -  1)  it'll  give  you  a  carpet  2)  will  house  a  lot  of  micro  food  food  for  shrimp/lets  alike.

with  a  moss  base  carpet  the  headache  of  CO2  goes  and  you  can  keep  sticking  to  11W  CFL..guess  this  would  be  a  hassle  free  resolution  at  your  end.

BTW:  the  next  time  you  make  a  scape..send  me  a  couple  of  pic's  before  you  finalize  the  tank..lets  see  how  can  we  spice  it  up  to  look  jazzy..Smile  Hope  you  have  seen  the  new  8"  cube  I  posted  couple  of  days..my  latest  project..Smile

I'll  do  that..because  I  am  not  happy  with  the  hairgrass  growth  and  the  non-availability  of  any  carpet  plants  in  my  city..Does  xmass  moss  require  any  injected  CO2?  tell  me  by  personal  experience  and  not  what  google  bhai  has  to  say  about  it..   And  I  am  thinking  of  going  for  a  15  watt  pll  (did  I  mention  that  already?)  like  that  one  Sujo  has  made  in  his  DIY..  Next  time  I'll  make  a  new  scape,  I'll  send  pics  and  sketches  before  I  put  anything  in..
Checked  your  new  scape  'cuuube  2.0,  very  good...waiting  for  your  trademark  'sunset'  background  to  be  added..

I  have  been  doing  water  changes  of  25-30%  every  2-3  days  so  far  and  everytime,  after  a  water  change  a  shrimp  dies...that  cant  be  normal.  I  dont  have  a  testing  kit.  and  yeah,  I  put  in  biotopol  C  in  the  water  to  make  it  safe  before  using  it(corp  water)..I  researched  online  that  soft  water  doesnt  have  enough  buffering  capacity  so  I  added  an  IAL  as  well  (which  is  helping  the  little  babies  to  graze  on  it)..whats  going  on?  Plus  I  also  found  that  a  lot  of  shrimp  keepers  change  water  once  in  3  weeks  or  a  month.

see  shrimps  live  is  clean  water  and  they  need  microbe  formation  in  the  glass/sponge  filter  to  feed  on  -  now  your  tank  is  not  mature  at  all  at  the  moment..so  water  change  =  huge  ammonia/nitrate/nitrite  swings..babies  should  survive  as  they  were  born  in  that  water  but  adults  have  a  bit  issues..at  the  moment  to  reduce  ammonia  WC  is  a  must  everyday..as  controsoil  like  amazonia  leaches  a  lot..take  it  from  me  as  all  my  scapes  have  only  contro  in  them..!  once  your  tank  fills  up  bio-film  on  glass  and  enough  microbes  they  will  stabilize

Not  necessarily..but  I  couldnt  get  my  hands  on  a  nano  heater..I  would  pretty  much  prefer  a  stable  temperature  (too  much  fluctuation  right  now).  I  know  its  an  eyesore  but  a  dire  necessity.

This  week,  some  good  news  n  bad  news..

Let  me  start  with  the  good  news  -  I  just  found  both  my  golden  apple  snails  out  of  water  and  fallen  beside  the  tank  dead..   Sad  Did  they  go  in  search  of  food?  Was  the  water  not  in  prime  condition  for  them  to  live  in?  I'll  never  know..

The  good  news  this  week  is  that  I  got  my  hands  on  4  more  shrimp  of  which  3  are  males.  I  acclimatized  them  via  drip  method  which  I  found  to  be  one  of  the  safest  methods  of  introducing  them  to  the  new  tank.  I  am  thinking  of  employing  this  same  method  for  WCs.

On  with  the  report  this  week,  I  made  certain  changes  to  the  tank  as  you  can  see  below..dont  shoot  me  for  being  such  a  scatter  brain  but  I  dont  love  to  tinker  with  my  live  tanks  and  I'll  try  my  best  to  curb  my  habit.

 Side  view

As  you  notice,  I  added  a  moss  wall..I  know  it  doesn't  look  like  a  conventional  wall  and  thats  because  I  used  net  cloth  instead  of  regular  nylon  mesh.  Why?  well  I  just  had  the  stuff  laying  around  so  I  thought  I'd  make  use  of  it.  Here's  how  I  did  it  -  -  -  >

a  lot  of  it  was  stuck  to  the  moss..and  the  worms  I  had  to  remove  from  the  lot,oh  my!

A  moss  wall  decides  which  gender  is  superior  in  this  tank..

So  far,  so  good...but  then  came  the  bottom  dwellers....  now  I  know  why  they  call  'em  "Creepy  Crawlies"..

I  dont  mind  the  copepods,  but  can  anyone  suggest  me  how  to  get  rid  of  these  planaria??
