| Ready to judge. I've been keeping track of the entries and there have been so many beautiful photos so far. It'll be a tough competition, I can say that much. |

Yep , I too am more than satisfied with the amount of participation. Some of the pictures started showing true colors(the way camera took them) when I opened them on photoshop. Its not visible on the web. That is little bit sad part, as its more to do with educating guys on how to post photographs on web rather than rejecting it as a bad photograph. I have written a tutorial on that, which I intend to publish it after this competition is over, as I have used one of the competitions photograph in the tutorial to demonstrate how it could have been improved. Going forward we will see more and more beautiful photographs in the IAH galleryas well as the competitions.

Hello Elaine,
My feeling is that a macro lens is important for getting good, focused images of fish, particularly if they are small and you need to get in close.
Canon do a dedicated macro lens for the 350D (Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens, but the minimum focusing distance is still 20 cm).
The closest focusing distance with the standard lens that Canon supply is probably 28 cm or more. So if your camera is closer than 28 cm to the fish, that image is always going to be out of focus. You need to stand further back for the photo to be in focus.
With my Fuji S7000, where the minimum focusing distance in normal macro is just 10 cm, I always use the camera in autofucus mode.
If the image is out of focus, the camera warns me.
I am sure that the Canon has a similar facility.

Infact I have the results with me - I was making the final score-card the whole evening!
I'll have to fulfill a final formality of confirmation of results with Sandeep - after Sandeep confirms all the marks to be correct - I'll declare the results tomorrow!
The results are really interesting..................indeed a close finish!
every photo was evaluated for 60 marks (10 marks for each judge)

i have never had discuss, but seeing all those beautiful pictures i just wanna start with the king of fresh water fishes. however the results are and whoever wins, i think that each discuss owner will feel his fishes are the best however they look, thats why u guys are here, the place for true hobbyists.  three cheers for one and all. and defnitely one for me  . hehe. |
