One  good  news  for  anyone  trying  this  DIY-
There  is  no  need  to  buy  a  4  inch  pipe  &  cut  it  into  half.  Half  pipes  are  available  at  pipe  shops  (Found  in  Mysore  so  obviously  will  be  present  in  other  cities  too..)

So,  the  pain  to  cut  the  pipe  isn't  there.

 Regards,
 ABHILASH

What  are  these  half  pipes  originally  meant  to  be  used  for?  The  shopkeeper  was  confused  and  asked  me  why  anyone  would  use/want  such  a  thing   Smile

These  half  pipes  are  common  in  Kerala  hardware  shops  too.
There  it  is  called  "Patthi"  in  Malayalam.
 Not  seen  in  Bangalore  anywhere.

These  pictures  will  give  you  an  idea  where  it  is  being  used...     Smile

radjanair  -  Thanks  for  sharing  your  photos.  The  side  fitting  is  an  excellent  idea  to  hide  the  ballast

Sujo  -  Do  the  half  pipes  also  come  with  the  side  fitting  attached  or  detachable  as  a  separate  piece  so  that  one
can  fit  it  based  on  the  length  of  the  half  pipe  that  is  to  be  used  ?

If  you  are  looking  for  a  PVC  side  fitting...
PVC  caps  are  available  depending  on  your  pipe  size.
 Check  it  in  hardware  shops.

 Thank  You  Sujo  for  sharing......
I  am  new  to  fish  keeping  as  well  as  IAH.
It  is  a  very  nice  design.
Can  we  use  ultra  violet  light  for  aquarium,  I  have  heard  that  it  helps  prevent  fungus.
 Please  suggest.
