ATS  is  algae  turf  scrubber.  There  are  DIYs  on  this.  You  can  google  them.
Also,  I  am  willing  to  join  for  a  group  order  of  GFO.

A  good  colony  of  Copepods  should  keep  the  algae  in  control  right  ?  Besides  there  is  no  alternative  to  water  change  no  matter  how  many  gadgets  we  add  we  cannot  replicate  sea  for  its  sheer  volume.  My  opinion  periodic  water  change  is  the  best  solution.

ATS  has  drawbacks  and  is  not  an  alternate  for  water  change.

please  read  "  i  just  want  people  to  understand  what  is  actually  going  on  in  our  systems.  to  just  say  an  ATS  will  work  is  not  good  enough  for  me.  you  have  to  say  why.  they  can  work,  but  you  will  also  have  to  know  the  drawbacks  to  them.  they  do  not  remove  organics  till  they  are  harvested.  they  do  leak  phosphates.  phosphates  are  growth  inhibitors  for  Ca  depositing  photosynthetic  organisms.  this  includes  corals  and  other  algae.  they  also  produce  yellow  gelbstoff  into  the  system  when  the  ATS  gets  really  large  compared  to  the  tank  volume.  "  -  http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f6/algae-turf-scrubber-verses-protein-skimmer-107968-2.html

 @  Sripad
Are  you  using  Phosguard?  Al2O3  is  fine,  unless  your  pH  drops  below  6,  in  which  case,  your  live  stock  would  be  long  gone  by  then.

 @  Bettaji
Coppepods  will  not  keep  algae  in  check,  and  yes,  regular  water  change  is  best.

 @  Nanomania
I'm  fed  up  of  hearing  about  your  ATS.  Post  a  thread  of  your  tank,  and  let  people  choose  if  they  want  to  know  more  about  it  or  not.  You  don't  see  me  going  on  and  on  about  my  Bubble  King  skimmer,  do  you?

Well,  im  using  al2o3  from  a  chemical  store,  which  is  basically  phosguard  without  the  label.  pH  is  around  8.2

Phosguard  is  relatively  cheaper  than  GFO,  and  easier  to  source  in  India,  which  is  why  I  have  recently  made  the  change  to  Phosguard.  So  far,  I  have  not  observed  any  ill  effects,  and  trust  me,  I  have  plenty  of  sensitive  livestock.

What  livestock  do  you  have  in  your  tank,  apart  from  fish?

@Nonza  do  you  use  baking  Soda  as  a  buffer  to  keep  the  ph  in  check,  when  you  use  phosgaurd  ?

I  have  no  corals  as  of  now.  Planning  to  start  with  a  frag  of  green  star  polyps  and  hoping  to  keep  softies.
