According  to  wild  life  protection  act  1972  you  cannot  tame  a  turtle,  yeah  If  you  still  insist  to  keep  turtles,  it  would  call  for  bigger  spaces  every  now  &  they  grow.
Besides  that  you  cannot  keep  them  with  other  fish  as  they  will  eat  them  up.

Most  important,  i  think  you  should  make  a  provision  for  the  turtle  to  come  out  of  water  for  basking.

Sorry  no  idea  on  price  &  tank  size.

turtles  are  commitment.  RES  are  bred  abroad.  for  res  you  will  need  a  5ft  tank  eventually.  halogen  spot  light  12v  for  each  (6-7hrs  a  day).  Food  -  if  its  baby  then  TETRA  REPTOMIN  BABY  for  one  month,  after  that  :

 SUNDAY  -  FREEZ  DRIED  SHRIMP
 MONDAY  -  NOTHING
 TUESDAY  -  CORIENDER
WEDNESDAY  -  SALAD  LEAF  &  REPTOMIN  5  STICKS
THUSRSAY  -  CORIENDER  OR  SALAD  LEAVES  OR  ANY  OTHER  VEGE.  (NEVER  FEED  TURTLES  ROOTS  OR  SPINACH  OR  CABAGE)
 FRIDAY  -  VEGEIES
 SATURDAY  -  REPTOMIN  8-10  STICKS

increase  stick  after  one  year.  keep  a  strip  of  terramycin  250mg  at  home.  if  they  are  sick,  keep  them  in  a  34-36C  water  with  terramycin  for  a  night  and  no  lights  on.

Indian  Wildlife  Act  prohibits  keeping  of  Indian  Turtles  only.
RES  is  not  a  native  Indian  turtle  and  hence  not  prohibited  by  IWA.
There  is  no  law  or  act  in  India  which  governs  animals  which  are  non  native  to  India  as  per  my  knowledge.
 It  is  grey  area

What  if  we  keep  non-native  corals.  Any  Indian  airport  does  not  allow  to  bring  corals  in  India.

Be  careful  before  keeping  Turtles  as  they  are  protected  under  the  WP  Act.  Turtle  needs  big  space  for  survival......  Thumb Up

Yes,  rules  governed  are  only  for  native  Indian  species.

Well  that  up  to  any  individual,  but  one  always  should  respect  &  give  sufficient  space.

 FYI,
A  good  rule  of  thumb  is  to  have  10  gallons  per  inch  of  your  turtle  plus  15%  extra  space  for  basking  areas.  For  a  baby  you  can  get  by  with  a  50  gallon  tank  for  the  first  year.  After  that  you  will  need  a  120+  gallon  tank.  Turtles  create  a  lot  of  waste,  and  they  need  to  have  enough  water  to  dilute  the  waste  as  it  is  being  filtered.  Without  lots  of  water,  the  toxins  will  build  up  and  can  have  harmful  effects  on  your  turtle's  health.  Additionally,  turtles  love  to  swim  in  deep  water.  They  need  enough  room  to  dive,  chase  down  fish  and  play.  They  are  territorial  animals  and  need  to  have  enough  space  to  call  their  own.

There  is  a  south  indian  superstition  that  keeping  a  turtle  at  home  will  invite  total  financial  meltdown.  While  i  have  seen  many  prosperous  turtle  owners  to  prove  the  contrary.  i  see  the  need  for  these  belief  systems,  at  least  from  the  turtles  perspective  Smile

 Guys,

Quit  digging  up  old  threads.  Only  the  original  poster  can  revive  a  thread  which  is  dormant  for  more  than  6  months.

We  keep  digging  up  old  posts,  current  threads  with  current  concerns  will  be  pushed  off  the  home  page.  And  a  person  needing  help  or  guidance  NOW  might  not  get  it!

 Regards,
