 Hi  Friends,

Found  the  below  link  in  ebay  looks  cheap.

 http://www.ebay.in/itm/3W-LED-DOWNLIGHT-260-LUMEN-AC86-265V-CE-ROHS-LED-DRIVER-/281057860287?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item41705a9abf

 I  have  a  planted  tank  32*12*16
I  run  60W  CFL,  but  not  sure  how  much  electricity  this  eats  up.

How  many  of  these  such  LED's  I  would  need  for  my  tank?  Will  it  help  to  reduce  my  electricity  bill?

I  am  not  an  electronics  guy,  tried  reading  several  post,  but  unable  to  understand  terms,  probably  it  will  take  a  while  for  me.

 Thanks
 Gokul

Personally  i  feel  its  not  worth  the  cost  +  shipping  cost.

Check  out  the  LED  Flood  lit,  works  out  better  !!!

 Hi  Gokul,
Your  60  watt  produces  around  800  lumens  and  if  you  want  match  that  then  you  will  need  around  3-4  of  those  LEDs  you've  posted  however  I  must  say  that  T5s  are  a  more  viable  and  cheaper  option  unless  you've  made  up  your  mind  on  trying  out  the  LEDs  Smile

 Regards,
 Jithin

 Thanks  to  both  of  you.

@Jithin  -  How  did  you  calculate  my  lumens?  I  thought  I  have  around  3000lumes,  the  instructions  box  said  1500  lumens/bulb.

But  even  if  I  buy  10  these,  it  will  work  out  cheaper  in  longer  run(Electricity  +  Yearly  replacement  of  CFL's).
 Am  I  wrong?

 Gokul,
The  product  spec  in  the  eBay  link  you  provided  says  260  lumens  and  cfl  I  simply  googled  does  your  box  say  3000  lumens  ?

Will  it  cut  down  your  power  cost  compared  to  cfl  definitely  yes.

 Jithin,

So  I  would  need  at  least  10  of  them  to  get  medium  lighting  for  my  tank(32*12*16).

 Yes,  CFL  has  1500  lumens.

Yep  10-12  should  suffice  but  you  migh  want  to  buy  one  see  the  effect  and  then  gofor  the  rest  because  for  that  price  you  could  easily  go  for  aquazonic  2feet  4x  t5  fixture  and  will  look  neat.
But  the  choice  is  yours  ....

All  these  LEDs  and  flood  light  LEDs  are  BARELY  more  efficient  than  T5  tubes.  Unless  you  are  getting  good  quality  branded  LEDs  dont  waste  your  money  go  for  T5  lights.  They  are  cheap  and  effective

 Hi  GokulK
Presently  I  am  using  3W  LED  with  holder  which  can  attached  directly  to  220V  mains  for  12"  bowl  in  my  daughters  house  at  Bangalore.
I  am  using  two  handful  of  china  clay  as   base  and     a  bunch  of  HM  say  8  stems  planted  in  a  small  glass  which  is  filled  with  china  clay.
The  lighting  is  like  a  spot  light  and  the  plants  are  so  greenery,  with  only  water  and  light.
I  doubt  this  cannot  be  used  for  32  x  12  x  16,  because  the  height  of  your  tank  is  16".   The  intensity  of  the  light  is  very  less.   You  can  go  for  30W  of  20W  LED  flood  lights.   Specially  30W  is  having  more  intensity

 All  the  best
