I  have  a  small  setup  right  now  with  a  heater  and  a  sponge  filter  and  i  maintain  the  temp  at  25  degrees.  I  suddenly  lost  7  shrimp  in  the  past  2  days,  a  few  greens,  rainbows  and  2  crossbred  rcs.  The  only  shrimp  that  have  remained  unaffected  are  my  RCS.  Ive  lost  shrimp  before  but  never  this  many  at  once,  and  id  got  the  greens  and  rainbows  only  a  week  ago.  Is  something  wrong  with  my  water  parameters  or  filtration?  I  dont  have  any  plants  in  the  tank,  only  a  little  moss  right  now.  Ill  be  shifting  them  to  another  tank  with  plants  in  a  week.

Is  that  a  shrimp  only  tank  ?
Any  drastic  changes  in  Ph,  ammonia,  nitrite  or  nitrates  ?   How  often  do  u  do  the  water  change  ?

Small  tanks  are  more  susceptible  to  parameter  changes  than  a  large  one.

Yes,  its  a  shrimp  only  tank.  I  dont  have  a  test  kit  so  i  dont  know  about  any  changes.  I  change  water  around  twice  a  week  and  add  a  little  everyday  to  make  up  for  water  lost  through  evaporation  because  of  the  heater.  Its  a  1  foot  tank  and  like  you  said  very  susceptible  changes.  im  moving  them  to  a  18x9x12  tank  next  week

i  only  suspect  the  water  as  a  problem,  as  the  same  shrimps  are  fine  with  me.  my  shrimps  are  now  with  him.  (lugia_111)  the  others  are  from  an  LFS  from  where  we  both  bought.  but  how  are  mine  all  completely  fine?

C.hodgarti   are  very  hard  shrimps  to  keep.  I've  always  been  unsuccessfull  with  them.
We  bought  the  greens  in  marine  aquarium  and  the  rcs   from  an  lfs  near  rramiah  and  from  me.

@Sanket:  Ifeed  them  tetra  bits  and  i  recently  started  giving  them  hikari  seaweed  extreme  pellets.
I  feed  them  once  a  day  and  give  them  the  hikari  only  occasionally.  i  feed  them  around  2-3  flakes  of  tetra  bits  and  if  i  give  them  hikar  only  1  pellet.  right  now  i  have  11  adult  shrimp  and  5  babies

Feed  only  2-3  times  a  week.  And  you  should  avoid  tetra  bits,  feed  only  algae  wafers  and  make  sure  other  food  which  you  are  giving  doesn't  contain  copper.change  only  30-40%  water(aged  water)  every  week.
 clean  filter  every  alternate  week.

@  Lugia_111  and  navneethtk:  Oh  my  GOD,  even  I  bought  those  shrimps  from  the  same  Marine  aquarium  Shivaji  nagar.  I've  brought  around  30  shrimps  (green  and  rocket  nose)  none  of  them  survived  after  a  week  from  the  day  I  bought.

Pls  never  buy  shrimps  from  that  shop,  the  quality  is  worst  and  sucks  :@

@Sanket:  I  guess  ill  feed  them  thrice  a  week  and  see  how  that  works  out,  since  you  advised  against  tetra  bits  ill  give  them  vegetable  and  hikari  seaweed  extreme.  Thanks  for  the  advice.

@Drifter_Raj:  That  may  be  true.  But  im  not  sure  if  its  the  quality  or  water  parameters  that  is  resulting  in  their  deaths,  as  navneethtk  also  bought  them  from  the  same  place  but  his  seem  to  be  fine

Hi  Lugia111(Sorry  dont  know  your  real  name  )

 Sorry  for  the  loss  -
Before  reaching  to  any  conclusion  or  possible  factors  for  your  shrimp  deaths,  here  are  certain  things  if  you  can  share  will  be  valuable--

 1.  Whats  the  tank  size?
 2.  Whats  the  filtration  medium?
 3.  Is  it  already  a  mature  and  cycled  tank?
 4.  Did  you  sprayed  any  kind  of  insecticide  like  HIT,  or  any  kind  of  spray  near  to  the  shrimp  tank  or  may  be  in  the  room?
 5.  Source  is  always  an  important  factor  -  so  try  to  get  shrimps  from  a  reputated  dealer  only  and  before  buying  have  a  look  at  the  shrimps  health  how  they  are  behaving?  For  C.Hodgarti  and  Green  Shrimp(C.  Tiwari)  its  easy  to  identify.
 6.  What  is  your  water  change  schedule  and  do  you  use  stored  water  for  water  change?
 7.  For  RCS,  it  might  not  be  a  factor  but  for  C.Hodgarti  it  may  be  -  do  you  use  borewell  or  cauvery  water?

I  also  feed  my  shrimps  6  days  a  week  and  only  feed  that  much  which  they  can  consume  in  2  hours.

Try  to  reply  down  the  questions  I  have  asked  so  may  be  we  can  work  out  for  a  possible  remedy...

Im  not  actually  sure  what  shrimp  they  are.  I  know  the  RCS  are  RCS  but  the  greens  all  seem  to  be  crossbreeds.  Here  are  all  the  replies  to  your  questions.

 1.  tank  size  is  18x9x12

 2.  Right  now  i  only  have  sponge  filter,  but  i  want  to  buy  a  small  HOB  soon

 3.  I  recently  shifted  them  to  this  tank  (yesterday  actually).  I  didnt  cycle  it  as  people  told  me  it  wouldnt  be  necassary  as  these  are  hardy  shrimp

 4.  Havent  sprayed  anything  of  that  sort  in  my  room  at  all

 5.  I  got  the  RCS  from  my  cousin,  none  of  which  have  died  and  the  green  and  rainbow  from  marine,  half  of  which  have  perished

 6.  I  used  to  change  the  water  around  1-2  times  a  week  (this  was  when  they  were  in  a  1  foot  tank)  ,  but  i  also  used  to  add  a  little  water  frequently  because  i  had  a  heater  in  the  tank  and  the  water  level  used  to  drop  everyday  because  of  that

 7.  I  use  cauvery  water,  dont  have  a  borewel  connection
