 Happy  News:  I  got  4  assassin  snails  with  the  help  of  a  follow  hobbyist!

 Sad  News:  When  I  introduced  them,  three  got  active,  one  didn't.  It's  been  more  than  24  hours  now,  no  movement,  no  visibility  inside...took  it  out  and  it's  not  smelling  either...

 How  do  I  confirm?

 Snails  can  sleep  for  days.  I  think  yours  just  needs  more  time  to  set  itself.

 I  have  no  idea  where  Navneeth  gets  his  information  about  sleeping  snails.  But  if  a  snail  has  not  moved  for  a  whole  day  and  the  shell  lies  in  plain  sight,  then  it  is  most  probably  dead.

 Well  if  the  lid  is  closed  then  its  obviously  sleeping  right?
 Apple  snails  can.  Sleepp  for  months  so  I  thought  the  same  for  assassin.
 When  I  got  my  first  assassin  they  didn't  move  for  two  days  later  I  saw  them  crawling  around.
 I'm  just  speaking  through  experience.

 +  1  Nayak,  if  shell  lies  more  than  24  hrs,  it  seems  to  death...  I  too  faced  the  same  problem.
 It  won't  smell  either.

 Navneeth,

 Kindly  do  not  overlap  the  behaviour  of  Genus  Ampullarioidea  with  Anentome/Clea.  The  comparison  will  be  pretty  misleading.

 No  newly  added  Assassin  snail  is  going  to  stay  in  plain  site  at  the  same  spot  for  24  hours  unless  and  until  it  is  dead.  Period.

 Deepak,

 Can  you  please  elaborate  Romi's  experience?  Seems  strange.

 @Ajay

 Its  ok  to  quote  my  name  as  the  'fellow  hobbyist'     Chuckle
 Was  surprised  why  you  did  not  tell  me  immediately.  Amey  called  me  the  same  night  and  I  told  him  wait  till  morning.

 I  had  4  inactive  ones  but  by  next  morning  1  disappeared  from  the  initial  position.
 The  other  3  were  still  lying  in  the  same  spot  and  position

 Both  me  and  Amey  also  have  3  each  that  were  inactive  for  24  hours.  Indicating  dead.

 We  will  be  getting  replacements  on  these  so  be  prepared  to  collect  again

 @Percy
 I  had  put  a  post  on  15th  Feb  in  the  WTB  section  and  placed  an  order.  You  did  not  respond.

 I  wonder  do  these  snails  ever  leave  their  shells  and  disappear  in  the  substrate.  How  do  they  get  empty  ?

 @  agarwalajay...if  the  fleshy  portion  beneath  the  snail  shell  is  hardened..it  means  the  snail  is  dead...usually  live  nail  with  curtail  their  body  within  the  shell  when  you  try  to  touch  it..

 Regards,

 Nayak  ji..He  was  looking  for  assasins.  So  I  sent  him  some  assasins  as  gift.  But  then..  some  of  them  started  moving  immediatelly  and  some  were  not  moving.  He  waited  for  4  to  five  days.  He  called  me  up  worried..
 Surprisingly  they  were  alive  and  are  breeding  now  in  his  tank.
 Now  I  am  trying  to  call  him  and  he  is  not  picking.

 That  was  his  story.  My  finger  crossed.

 Dont  know  if  this  helps  but  i  also  had  a  dead  assassin  in  my  tank  a  few  weeks  back.  Id  got  3  of  them  for  my  tank  and  they  were  all  active  as  soon  as  i  put  them  in.  But  the  next  morning  i  found  one  lying  upside  down  and  not  moving  at  all.  I  left  it  for  about  half  a  day  and  checked  to  see  if  it  was  alive.  The  Proboscis/siphon  (  dunno  what  you  call  it)  and  a  bit  of  the  flesh  was  hanging  out  of  the  shell  and  had  turned  a  pure  white,  and  the  shrimp  in  my  tank  were  eating  it  so  i  knew  it  was  dead  for  sure.

 Empty  shells  because  once  these  are  dead  the  flesh  decays  and  is  eaten  by,  Planaria,  other  snails  etc.

 they  can  lie  still  for  5-6  hrs  but  if  this  period  longer  then  90  %  they  are  dead.

 they  sometimes  vanish  into  the  substrate  and  when  this  happens  you  can  only  hope  that  they  are  alive  as  experienced  by  me  i  ad  5-6  for  a  couple  of  months  and  then  they  were  gone,  still  kept  on  seeing  one  odd  after  this  but  recently  rescaped  the  tank  and  sifted  through  the  substrate  to  find  all  the  snail  shells  empty.

 I  would  be  grateful  if  people  who  have  kept  these  to  add  their  2  bits  to  the  forum  as  there  seems  to  be  very  less  knowledge  about  these  deaths  and  reasons  for  such  deaths.
