 Dear  all,

I  am  new  in  this  hobby.  I  would  like  to  get  some  information  from  your  end  for  setting  up  the  Co2  regulation  system  for  my  newly  planted  3ft  x  1f  tx  2ft  aquarium.  Currently  I  have  a  275  gms  soda  maker  cylinder  with  me.

Please  letme  know  if  that  would  be  a  good  option  for  the  Co2  regulation  system  and  also   particular  type  of  regulator  that  would  be  required  to  control  the  pressure  and/or  of  the  Co2.

 Regards

 Sunny

+1  with  Radjanair  sir  just  for  the  information  sake.

I  would  say  that  the  cylinder  will  be  tooooooooooooooooooooooooooo  small  for  the  tank  of  that  size.
You  will  endup  filling  it  almost  daily

I  am  sure  that  there  were  many  many  threads  here  on  Soda  maker  cylinders.  Please  search  the  forum.  You  would  even  come  across  a  couple  of  threads  where  enterprising  aquarists  thought  of  adding  soda  to  the  tank   Chuckle

Off  the  top  of  my  head  I  don't  think  that  the  Soda  maker  cylinders  are  usable

 Hi  Sunny,

You  need  to  buy  minimum  2Kg  Co2  cylinder  for  your  size  of  tank.

Go  for  Fire  Extinguisher  cylinder  you  can  easily  find  the  new  one  or  old  also  if  you  are  lucky  majority  of  Hobbyist  are  using  them  &  infact  LFS  too  are  selling  them  after  spray  painting  them.  Chuckle

 Dear  All,

The  option  of  soda  maker  has  been  ruled  out  and  I  have  taken  some  quotes  for  the  3  kg  cylinder  and  the  approx  price  I  got  was  Rs.  3800/-  -Rs.  4200  for  a  refiilled  one.  Are   the  prices  genuine  or  do  I  need  to  browse  more?

 Regards

Before  I  start  FYI  "quoting  prices  are  prohibited  here  so  keep  the  price  details  in  PM"
First  of  all  the  prices  of  cylinder  vary  depend  upon  its  condition.
If  the  cylinder  is  refurbished(fire  extinguisher  converted  to  Co2  gas  cylinder  or  a  cylinder  that  was  used  for  some  other  purpose  being  converted  for  gaseous  CO2  after  doing  necessary  check)For  a  3Kg  cylinder  the  price  I  think  is  little  more  than  you  quoted.  But  nobody  is  confident  to  comment  on  this  as  it  is  really  hard  to  find  genuine  price(in  a  place  where  quality  is  assured)  in  this  hobby  so  most  of  us  go  to  trust  worthy  people  and  get  it  for  the  same  price  you  quoted.
The  price  will  be  even  more  if  it  is  a  new  cylinder  made  for  only  this  purpose(You  don't  need  a  new  cylinder  for  this  hobby  and  again  you  cant  really  trust  if  the  cylinder  is  really  new  or  not).

Again  there  are  lot  of  variables  for  Co2  cylinder  that  decides  its  price  so  some  time  you  may  get  it  for  half  the  price  you  mentioned.  You  cannot  be  sure  of  the  quality.  So  either  get  it  from  a  authorized  dealer  with  the  quality  check  papers  or  second  hand  cylinder  from  a  trust  worthy  hobbyist  or  from  genuine  shops(I  got  mine  from  Prabhu  of  aquarium  store  and  It  was  of  decent  quality.  I  got  it  checked  from  the  Co2  gas  filling  station).
Caution:  Co2  is  a  high  pressure  gas  so  don't  take  any  chances
For  an  insight  to  the  strength  of  a  cylinder  My   Co2  cylinder  with  4.5  Kg  capacity  weighs  12.6  Kg  when  empty  so  you  can  imagine  the  gauge  required  for  the  cylinder.

Anyways  the  price  for  the  filled  cylinder  is  tooo  much  that  you  mentioned.  For  us  in  Bangalore  we  get  a  3  Kg  cylinder  filled  for  less  than  2XX
