For  Iwagumi  you  can  read  articles  available  in  Google.

For  any  Iwagumi  you  should  have  to  go  for  odd  number  of  stones.  Like  3,5,7  and  go  on.

In  Iwagumi  rock  placement  is  always  1st  preference.  So  after  doing  the  hardscape  go  for  the  other  factors  like  plant,  fish  etc.

It's  very  difficult  to  change  the  scape  after  plantation.

Anyway  try  to  see  different  hardscape  and  according  to  that  change  the  rock  placement  if  possible.

 Hi  Anna,
if  you  want  a  colourful  tank,  then  Iwagumi  wouldn't  be  such  a  great  idea.  The  basis  of  Iwagumi  is  minimalism,  like  most  things  Japanese.  In  a  typical  Iwagumi,  you  never  use  more  than  2  or  3  plant  types.  So  stick  to  that  minimalism.

I  kinda  like  your  setup.  but  those  leggy  stem  plants  at  the  back  are  a  bit  distracting  and  IMO  too  tall  compared  to  the  rest  of  the  setup.  Either  keep  them  trimmed  short  or  better  still,  use  a  bushy  kind  of  plant.  Also,  that  middle  rock;  try  to  see  if  it  looks  better  leaning  towards  the  largest  rock.  right  now  it  is  leaning  away  from  the  'mother'  rock  which  is  creating  that  gap  and  cuts  the  continuity.  I  think  it  would  be  better  if  it  is  leaning  the  other  way.  use  some  more  small  stones  to  gradually  taper  off  the  hardscape.

you  may  want  to  fuil  up  the  soil  with  a  good  green  carpet.  I  suggest  using  HM  and  pearl  weed.  or  else  you  can  also  use  glosso.  I  have  good  macranda  in  my  18"  tank  its  realy  dark  red  now  and  very  small  leaves  with  lots  of  branches.  (I  will  not  post  a  pix  Chuckle  )  its  realy  eyecatching  in  my  nano  planted  tank.

I  too  like  the  tank  Smile
But  not  the  rotala  mini  in  the  middle,  may  be  move  the  guinea  to  the  middle  instead  of  macrandra.

Also,  I  the  glosso  can  be  replaced  by  monte  carlo  or  some  other  varities.

Its  a  good  tank,  just  the  middle  rock  is  not  placed  properly,  very  distracting.  A  pic  for  proper  angle  IMHO.  Shelly  D  has  already  explained  rest.

What  are  the  requirement  of  Monte  Carlo  plant?  What  you  think?

Iwagumi  layout  would  not  have  any  stems  plants  in.  So  I  dont  think  this  can  be  named  as  an  Iwagumi  layout.  Please  read  more  on  Iwagumi  and  understand  what  is  Iwagumi  layout  is  all  about.  An  Iwagumi  layout  would  only  have  more  of  carpet  plants  and  no  stems  plants  at  all.

There  are  ways  the  rocks  needs  to  be  arranged  while  doing  an  Iwagumi  layout.  And  as  you  want  more  vibrant  colors  in  the  tank,  its  not  possible  with  an  Iwagumi  layout.  There  are  no  carpet  plants  other  than  green  colored.  So  decide  on  what  you  want  to  achieve  and  then  carry  forward.

It  is  not  an  igwami  set  up....
But  I  loved  the  scape  considering  it  is  your  first  attempt....Even  if  it  is  3rd  also  it  is  good  Very Happy  .
All  I  didnt  like  is  gthe  stem  plants  in  the  middle.
Also  with  this  hardscape  dont  even  think  about  keeping  lots  of  different  plants.  Keep  it  to  2  or  3  varieties  or  eventually  you  will  loose  your  scape
