Surprisingly strange no posts / replies on my Flower Horn except Caesar!

I know and even agree that Keeping Other Cichlids is best option than keeping FH as it is a Man Made Davil!

But now he is Part of my family and I will keep him till he passes away naturally as I cannot even think of releasing him or Giving Away as my daughter is attached to him and they both have good time with each other!

Vishal,

We are somewhat purists here in terms of fishes and fishkeeping. Glad your daughter likes the fish.
Regarding playing with the fish, I had a Green terror(Aequidens rivulatus) male which used to flare at any one who come close to the Aquarium glass. My kids used to have fun with it too. So simply put it is a Cichlid trait to interact with things that intrudes into their territory.

Try to keep pure Cichlids. They are more challenging in terms of fishkeeping and more satisfying as family members and morally too Thumb Up

Regards,

Hi Vishal,

Though I cant appreciate the fish since I am not a big fan of them.
I really appreciate that you took good care of it till now, that it looks great in itsown looks. Clapping Clapping .

Nayak sir,
FIrst time I differ from you since He had bought it when he was unaware. Now his best option is what he is doing, instead of releasing them to wild.
Also he managed to keep it (fish: Man made or not) healthy and am sure have learned a lot on fish keeping.
I have known that keeping FH needs lots of maintenance.

Now I pray to all hobbyist in this forum to stop buying these and stop promoting its business.
There are tonnes of beautiful cichlids if you look for them(Don't ask me for opinion since I am not an expert in cichlids, as most of them are big and I don't have a monster tank they deserve )

Where have I asked him "to release it in the wild"?
I have suggested, that in future he try and go for pure Cichlids Smile

the fh does look good. please remember one thing: though we are purists, we don't hate the man made fishes... we hate the men who created them and the market that promotes and drives such an enterprise. this is why we try and advise everyone to keep away from these fish, hoping to curb the demand for them... the poor fish had nothing to do with which species it was born into, anymore than you or i.

also, releasing any non-native fish into the wild is a crime, you tend to severely unbalance the ecosystem into which the fish was realized. so, even regular cichlids can do a heck lot of harm... :)

my two cents...

Thank you all who have commented on my Post!

I have initiated this post to show my 10" Flower Horn (his health and agility) to interested people and not to initiate any debate!

@ Nayak and Abhis –

Though I've joined IAH way back in 2009, I was not browsing regularly and bought my FH without having knowledge of it is a Man-made specie. I've got to know about it in May-2012 and by then this FH has grown to 3~4 in and every-one in my family started liking him and he became part of my family!

When I got to read an article, Flowerhorns, alias Nightmares by Madhu Soodhanan of Tamil Nadu, India on Aquarticles. I came to know all about this specie and also came to know about a mistake made by me, and then decide not to do any more mistakes and keep my FH till he passes away naturally!

Nayak Ji, I’m requesting you to pls lock this post for any further replies /post.

Now I’m pursuing my hobby as purist only and you will definitely see my collection soon!

Surely you will see my collection Cichlid collection soon! Actually I love to bring cichlids as small as I can, take care of them and grow them!

the fh does look good. please remember one thing: though we are purists, we don't hate the man made fishes... we hate the men who created them and the market that promotes and drives such an enterprise. this is why we try and advise everyone to keep away from these fish, hoping to curb the demand for them... the poor fish had nothing to do with which species it was born into, anymore than you or i.

also, releasing any non-native fish into the wild is a crime, you tend to severely unbalance the ecosystem into which the fish was realized. so, even regular cichlids can do a heck lot of harm... :)

my two cents...
