Will  these  magnets  from  hard  drives  be  available  in  the  hardware  store  or  these  are  of  a  specific  type  to  be  bought  in  a  computer  store

 @  Pio..

Hard  drive  magnets  are  not  mandatory  to  use  here.  You  can  use  any  powerful  rectangular  magnet.  A  power  full  magnet  would  make  the  fan  to  run  in  high  speed  and  thereby  giving  more  wind.  If  the  magnetic  power  is  capable  to  only  rotate  the  fan,  it  would  not  serve  any  purpose.  Try  using  power  full  rectangular  magnet.

Planning  to  buy  4  rectangular  shaped  magnets  and  try  this  at  home.  You  can  purchase  magnets  from  the  shops  who  sells  hobby  kits  to  schools  and  colleges.  They  stock  different  size/shape  magnets.

No  way  that's  gonna  work.  If  you  remember  school  grade  science,  you  cannot  create  energy  out  of  nothing.  Even  if  you  rotated  the  fan  initially,  friction  would  eventually  stop  it.   The  guy  probably  has   lithium  cells  to  power  them......  Smile.  In  perfect  space  with  perfect  lubrication,  this  might  work.  But  then  you  don't  need  these  magnets  then.  Just  rotate  the  plastic  fans  and  they  would  keep  rotating  if  the  shaft  is  frictionless.

For  a  motor,  you  need  magnets  and  a  coil  through  which  electrical  energy  flows  which  creates  the  magnetic  flux  and  makes  the  whole  thing  rotate.  Here  all  you  have  is  the  magnet.

It  works.  My  friend  tried  with  the  hard  disk  magnet  and  it  rotates  continuously...

Please  try  it  by  yourself  and  you  will  know  what  is  happening  there....   Thumb Up
