 Hi  All,
This  is  my  new  tank(made  with  Extra  clear  glass).  Trying  to  set  up  a  rockscape.  Not  finished  yet  but  moving  rocks  around  for  a  nice  setting.  please  let  me  know  if  it  looks  right  or  can  be  improved.
I  do  need  more  contra  soil.  I  thought  I  had  5kgs  when  I  suddenly  discovered  the  grains  were  bigger  and  smaller.  Am  going  back  to  Aquastar  to  change  it.
 Thanks,
 Hari

 Hi  Hari,

Nice  rock.  If  you  can  use  them  properly  it  can  be  very  beautiful  scape.

 Few  points:
 1)  maintain  the  line  texture  very  strictly  parallel  to  each  other,  that  will  give  you  more  natural  look.
 2)  you  need  more  slope  to  get  the  desired  look
 3)  I  think  you  have  Idea  of  mountain  steps,  try  to  understand  the  required  stone  positioning  for  desired  depth.  generally  factor  is  big  rock  in  the  front  and  smaller  at  the  back.  But  depending  on  usage  of  plant  you  may  cove  the  rock  space
 4)  Slobodan  Lazarevic,  a  famous  aquascaper  has  few  of  such  scapes,  you  may  see  the  technique  in  those  pics

Love  the  rocks,  a  few  adjustments  as  suggested  by  others  will  make  it  a  great  scape.

Got  the  contrasoil  from  Aquastar  finally.  Took  1  hr  to  reach  there  and  2.5  hours  to  come  back.  Full  traffic  along  the  route.
The  name  of  the  rock  is  1000  layer  rock.
I  checked  and  Aquastar  still  has  a  nice  collection.  He  informed  that  he  gets  it  regularly.
Thanks  to  Athreyan  for  helping  me  pick  out  the  rocks.  Took  us  close  to  45  minutes.  We  went  through  the  entire  pile.
Will  start  on  the  design  tonight.

Find  it  difficult  to  work  in  the  mornings...as  my  10  month  old  daughter  insists  on  helping  me   :D

@Partha  ...thanks  for  your  suggestions..will  check  out

Made  the  scape.  I  cannot  put  my  finger  on  it,  but  I  feel  it  needs  to  be  tweaked  a  bit.  Any  suggestions?
Untidy  look  vs  neat  look  -  this  is  the  root  of  my  confusion.
Tank  Size  is  63cmsx40cms  (H  45  cms)  -  small  tank.

On  the  left,  there  is  a  gap  through  which  soil  keeps  coming  down.  Can  I  keep  some  sort  of  glass  panel  vertically  to  stop  the  flow?  I  have  run  out  of  same  type  rocks.

 Slight  variation

After  seeing  these  changes  I  am  quite  shocked  that  you  got  the  basics  from  the  reference  images  I  mentioned  earlier.  Those  are  quite  good.

 Now  few  more  things
 b)  you  need  to  increase  the  height  of  all  the  rocks.  It  will  be  quite  difficult  now  as  you  have  already  made  your  substrate  wet.  Still  if  you  want  to  do  as  per  suggestion,  you  need  thermocol  steps  at  different  levels.  Then  you  have  to  place  the  rocks  and  substrate.  I  would  suggest  make  the  steps  and  also  dry  your  substrate.  That  will  help  you  to  work  easily  and  you  can  do  small  finishing  only  with  dry  substrate.  It  may  take  time,  but  good  for  the  scape.

 b)  As  per  me,  if  you  work  a  bit  more  cleverly...you  may  not  fall  short  of  rocks.  I  will  make  three  rocks  layer  at  the  left  side  of  the  tank.
1  will  be  at  the  top  as  you  positioned  but  a  bit  right,  so  that  the  tip  matches  the  corner  joint  of  the  glasses.
3  will  be  positioned  as  the  place  of  2
Now  4  need  to  be  pushed  a  bit   inside  but  at  the  left  touched  with  the  glass,  Now  if  you  really  feel  that  yellow  circle  part  is  too  empty  adjust  9  there

Now  you  left  with  2,5,6,7  and  8

I  think  these  are  enough  for  right  hand  side,   The  concept  is,  as  you  have  positioned  the  big  rock  at  the  left,  best  is  to  take  advantage  of  its  size  and  minimize  the  number  of  rocks  in  the  left  and  maximize  at  the  right.

 c)  You  plant  positioning  will  be  tricky  with  present  rock  positioning

Its  all  trial  and  error,  PICS  below

To  stop  the  flow  of  substrate,  you  can  use  old  credit  cards  or  similar  looking  acrylics.  Just  bury  them  1  or  2mm  under  the  substrate,  across  the  slop.  I  think  this  would  do  the  trick..!!

Thanks  Partha  for  the  elaborate  and  details.   Cheer   Clapping

Thermacoal  steps  ...  that  is  a  nice  way.  I  can  stick  and  shape  into  a  slope.  That  way  I  am  sure  I  will  use  only  half  the  soil  I  am  using  now.
 Now  2  questions  here:
 1.  Won't  the  thermocoal  try  to  float.  (I  know  the  rocks  and  contra  will  force  it  down)  but  is  there  any  chances?
 2.  I  have  seen  that  on  prolonged  use  of  thermacoal  and  water,  it  sort  of  melts.  (source:  aquarium  shops).  I  hope  it  does  not  creates  pockets  in  the  soil  and  change  the  current  setting.

Your  eye  for  aesthetics  sure  helps  a  lot.  In  your  design,  the  only  place  I  can  place  the  inlet  for  the  front  glass  on  the  right  side.  Will  it  not  hide  the  right  side  of  the  design?  I  was  hoping  to  have  the  inlet  at  an  inconspicuous  place.

@Keluthi.  I  have  seen  use  of  acrylic  in  IAH  forums.  Just  that  I  need  to  purchase  it,  whereas  I  have  glass  on  hand  and  can  get  small  pieces  from  nearby  shops.  (Not  that  I  am  any  good  at  cutting  it...I  have  wasted  3x2  sq  feet  and  so  far  only  1  of  my  cuts  was  perfect!)

Ya  you  have  chances  to  float...you  need  to  stick  it  to  the  bottom  glass  and  to  each  other.  They  will  not  melt  within  a  year,  I  have  used.  Inlet  can  be  placed  front  of  right  side  glass.

Another  option  is  some  inert  gravel  or  sand  in  stockings.  Make  them  like  sausages  and  kind  of  flatten  from  the  top  where  you  want  to  keep  rocks.  Cover  with  your  controsoil   Thumb Up
