 Hi  friends,

I  have  6  yoyo  loaches  in  my  partially  planted  40G  (3  footer)  tank,  which  has  some  rock  scapes  too..

Now  I  want  to  eliminate  them  from  my  tank  as  they  are  disturbing  my  innocent  corys  very  much.

im  trying  to  catch  them  since  long  time,  reduced  the  water  even  to  2-3  inches,  but  when  I  put  the  net,

immediately  they  are  vanishing  inside  the  stones.

Pls  suggest  any  idea  to  catch  them  without  disturbing  the  soil  and  plants..

Very  difficult  to  catch  them.  I  had  a  hard  time  when  I  wanted  to  quarantine  one  with  a  bloated  abdomen.  Be  careful  when  you  handle  them.  They  have  a  sharp  bristle.

 Thanks  Dr  Dheep  &  Garothmaan,

Garothmaan,  I  tried  the  same  idea  with  a  polythene  cover,  kept  live  worms  inside..  but  they  never  turned..
only  my  odessa  barbs  got  trapped  into  it..!!   Sad

Dr  Dheep,  Yes  I  knew  about  their  bristle,  it  poked  my  finger  once  and  got  bleeded..!!   Shocked

Anyway..  let  me  try  this  weekend  again,  in  worst  case,  will  disturb  the  plants  and  stones  and  rescape  later..     Sad

 Thanks

Catch  them  late  at  night  after  the  lights  have  been  off  for  a  few  hours.  Use  a  torchlight  to  spot  them  and  catch  them  in  the  dark.

 Hi  JB,

In  my  experience,  they  are  very  good  to  control  the  snails..  and  suits  for  planted  tank,  where  as

other  loaches  will  dig  the  plants  roots.  but  very  very  active  guys  that  can't  catch  it  back  in  densed

planted  tank.  they've  needle  like  barbels,  care  should  be  takem  while  catching.

Yoyo  loaches  are  much  more  hyper  compared  to  corys.  And  can  get  aggressive  if  they  don't  have  other  yoyor  loaches  to  squabble  with.  In  groups  they  keep  to  themselves.  Quite  a  PITA  to  catch,  damn  fast  and  squeeze  through  the  smallest  gaps.  And  intelligent  enough  to  guess  your  evil  intentions.

Another  thing  is  that  these  fellows  are  very  inquisitive  and  will  investigate  every  small  nook  and  cranny.  Mine  would  disappear  for  days  and  then  be  back  with  a  bang  to  rejoin  his  group  of  cronies.

 Go  for  coriydoras,  more  civilized.

Also  in  response  to  Marc's  suggestion  I  would  add  that  mine  seemed  to  be  awake  at  all  odd  hours  and  would  wake  up  in  an  instant,  say  compared  to  your  average  fish  which  would  take  a  few  minutes  to  really  wake  up  and  get  going.  So  even  at  night  with  the  torch  you  have  to  be  smooth  and  fast.

That's  because  most  loach  are  nocturnal.....but  if  you  give  them  a  long  period  of  darkness  before  you  start  your  venture,  they  would  have  settled  down  a  bit.

 Ok,thanks  for  that  tip.

Even  though  I  don't  have  yoyos  anymore  I  do  have  some  lepidocephalichthys  guntea.  Night  is  when  I  get  to  see  them  all,  otherwise  in  the  daytime  three  or  four  give  proxy  for  the  rest.  I  have  seven.  These  are  altogether  different  in  temperament  compared  to  yoyo  loaches.

They  are  like  naughty  children  of  fish  world,  they  have  a  uncanny  habit  of  getting  into  most  unusual  places  even  filter  outlets.
They  made  a  mess  of  my  moss  wall,  every  day  I  would  find  one  of  them  entangled  in  the  mesh.
To  me  they  were  nearly  impossible  to  catch,  they  can  bury  themselves  in  sand  and  become  nearly  invisible.
I  stopped  keeping  them  as  it  is  nearly  impossible  to  get  them  out  of  tank  without  ripping  the  tank  apart.
Good  luck  to  you.  Very Happy
